He would have been 335 years old today! (even Google is paying tribute to Vivaldi today!)

IIRC, The Four Seasons is the most recorded classical composition.

    For those into his music!

Music for the Eyes. Magic for the Ears. Experience the world's greatest classical musicians up-close like never before.

Today is the birthday of Italian baroque composer, Antonio Vivaldi. T...

My appreciation for classical music started 20 odd years ago when my wife gave me a Phillips pressed 'The Four Seasons' on CD. Had never listened to a whole classical cd before then. The Four Seasons turned me on to a whole new genre I never appreciated before. Great piece.

    Happy Birthday Signor Vivaldi!

Back in 1992 on our first and only visit to Venice, we stayed in a hotel, a few blocks down from Piazza San Marco and facing the Grand Canal, which 3 centuries earlier had housed the residence of Antonio Vivaldi. The church around the block was his church (remember his nick name was "The Red Priest") and they even had a concert one of the nights we were there. He worked for many years at the famous girls' orphanage, the Ospedale della Pietà where he taught the girls to sing and play violin and other instruments forming the orchestra and chorus for whom he composed many of his works. If you get a chance, sample some of his choral works, every bit as fine as his many violin concerti.
