From the website and how pics can be deceiving.

“Even the slightest residual transformer vibrations are prevented from reaching sensitive parts of the amplifier due to the mechanical decoupling of the unit from the case.”
Is the circuit board floating on some type of suspension that detaches it from the case or just the power transformer?

That's what I wondered. I know Stillpoints makes miniature versions of their product meant to be used as standoffs for things like circuit boards.

I think most companies today in one way or another decouple the circuit boards from the equipment chassis. conrad-johnson did that 2 decades ago with runner grommets; until recently you had to lock down their circuit board before shipping.

There is no circuit board; it’s all point-to-point wiring. You can see the insides in the picture from the visit to audioarts. Now Imwould have to open up to see exactly how the parts are isolated.

Thanks. I missed that picture. So it's just the power transformer that is isolated by rubber devices.

mep, you might try an external step up transformer, to convert your MM to MC. I did that, using a K&K premium and am very happy with the results. They will even send you plug in resistors for whatever cartridge loading you need, for free. The kit price is cheap, and even the constructed price is only $650. Here's a link. http://www.kandkaudio.com/moving-coi...-step-up-kits/

So here’s a very early, sneak preview on the Thoress. The phonostage still needs much more burn-in time but I wanted to listen to Thoress/Colibri Signature combo before returning the cartridge to the importer. I’ll really miss the Colibri and will have a review out shortly. In the interim, read Andre’s excellent review in the January edition of TAS. He nails the Colibri’s sound.

So far I’ve been very impressed and the Thoress phonostage reinforces and the unit definitely complements the Colibri’s strengths. Midrange, transparency, soundstaging and resolution. Ever so easy to listen to.

And what a midrange! So natural and the phonostage just allows the Colibri’s exceptional tonal palette to emerge. The unit has much of the Kondo’s unmechanical nature without the Kondo’s Signature.

Everything in the system was hitting on all cylinders last night and many albums-take Hovhaness’s Symphony #4 on Mercury for example—possibly sounded the best they’ve ever sounded. The Hovhaness was between the huge soundstage, instrumental tone color (in particular the bass clarinet, contrabasoon, tuba and bells) and the sense of feeling the microphone locking in on the instrument, a recording to behold. Simply breathtaking and an almost out of body experience. My mouth isn’t open often listening to equipment. 😉

Just wait until you hear how the Thoress/Colibri combination reveal the tiniest nuances on recordings. Good and bad. Like tape print through you might not have picked up before. Like Louie Belson singing along while playing drums on Basie Jam. Like how long fades last on some of RVG’s Bluenotes. Like —and Andre mentioned this in his review—how long reverb tails last and even might start in the right channel and continue and trail off to the left channel for what seems forever!

                      Stay tuned.
