  • Anyone else using Mapleshade Silclear?

I have been using it for a number of years with good results but I don't see any mention of it here. I find it especially useful on cartridge pins. After I clean the contacts I apply the Silclear. I have used in on all RCAs, tube pins, the cartridge pins and just about everywhere you have a connection with the exception of power connections.

Some people don't like it because it can short out your connection. This is true but the makers of this stuff assume you have the good sense to not apply it like your slapping on paint. The instructions warn you to apply it carefully.

Is this like Lloyd Walkers silver treatment suspended in an oil base? I forget what he calls it. If so, yes. You have to apply it conservatively to tube pins or you can fry your electronics. I know people who have done it. Cable contacts are less volatile. And yes, this stuff is like a lightening rod. It really works.

Yup...its micro fine silver suspended in a conductive grease of some type. It is a great add on and yeah it has the same gotchas that you wrote about.

Oh yes, a bit tough to clean off.

Less is more. I am always hesitant using anything that isn't easily reversible if I don't like it.

One of the silver contact enhancers said it takes a month of playing for it to sound right. Until then, it would be bright. Thanks, but no thanks.

Having used Lloyds version of this for years, there is definitely a break in period. Components generating smaller signals take longer than amplifiers. Phono cartridges take a long time.
Working...
