  • Small Cartridge Bubble Level

This small level came with the Colibri and found it a great tool for leveling the arm level to start with! You can also use it as a starting point for azimuth too! It's light enough so as not to unduly stress the cartridge's suspension either. (Think the Graham arm has one built in?) I like using this in concert say with the Smartstylus set up jig too.

There are also some other bubble levels like the following that seem cheaper than the AJ's spirit level too on eBay. Click image for larger version Name:	IMG_3255.JPG Views:	1 Size:	16.5 KB ID:	42825

Wally Malewicz's ingenious VTA gauge (WAM Engineering) also works very well for leveling the arm. Zero stress on a cartridge. I keep it mounted on a spare headshell.

    1. With the cartridge sitting on a record, use the supplied rule to measure the height of the cartridge at the headshell in millimeters. Keep a record of this for each cartridge and you'll only need to measure once.
    2. Set the mountable 'blade' to that height using the supplied spacers.
    3. Adjust tonearm height until 'blade' is perfectly level on the record.

Record the mark on the tonearm's vta tower or similar and always return to level.

Oh. That's a different level than what came with my older vdh cartridge and the Colibri XGP that Andre has.
Micro Seiki SX-8000 table with flywheel, SME 3012R arm, SME 312S arm, Lyra Etna SL and Dynavector XV-1S cartridges, ARC Ref 3 phono stage, Otari MX-55 tape deck, Ampex 350 repros, Roon Nucleus Plus server, PS Audio DSJ DAC, ARC Ref 6 pre, ARC Ref 75 amp, Parasound JC5 amp, JBL 4345 speakers, and Def Tech Ref subs.

They used to come with a spirit level screwed into the box next to the cartridge.

Myles, stop teasing us where's your capsule report or initial thoughts on the colibri?? or at least what can you tell us before you submit a review.

So now I'm confused. Where did you get the bubble level? I thought you said that came with the Colbri.

The one that you see in the above pic is what I am referring to. That came with the Colibri in the picture.
          Working...
