Just in from Italy! The blank case is an Al Jarreau recording dating back to 1965. The Al Jarreau and Astor-Piazzola aren't on Open Reel's website yet and will be debuted at the Munich Show in a couple of weeks.
A note from Marco Taio of Open Reel Records about the Jarreau and Monk tapes:
"The recordings was made from my old friend Alberto Albertini, he use the tubes mixer “Blesser” 12 IN 3 OUT, the portable 3-track Ampex 300/3, a suitcase for all the mechanical bits and one for the electronics and the tubes microphones “Schoeps” CM65 (labeled Telefunken).
The tubes microphones needed a separate power supply to power the tube’s filament and the high voltage for the plate, respectively 6.3 volts and 250 volts. The output transformer was indispensable for the impedance adaptation and galvanic separation of the circuits and it was inside of the microphone. The microphone was tubular with a diameter of 30 mm. It contained the valve and the output transformer."
You will find this recording very very realistic and sophisticated for its time !
