  • Specifics on tape releases from Acoustic Sounds?

I'm sure that all of us reading this subforum are aware of the fact that Acoustic Sounds will be selling copies of Master tapes in the future.

IMHO, there's still a dearth of information on the specifics.

I even watched a Youtube video showing the Axpona tape seminar hosted by Myles. The link to the video (I can't remember where I saw it) hinted at the great announcement by Chad Kassem regarding tape but unfortunately the video made no mention of the specifics about the announcement. Chad only said "we're going to do it and do it well" (paraphrasing). I have no doubt it will be great.

However, can someone divulge some specifics on what has been announced by Acoustic Sounds (cost? titles? ETA?).

    Thanks in advance....

I sent Chad a link to the thread. chad is usually real good to responding to questions so let's see what he says. I imagine it might take a little time though because he's going probably going to Newport.

I think that will hardly be an issue with Chad's tapes. He has the master tapes for the titles he mentioned to me. The tapes will be akin to the Tape Project. Master-->Working Production Master-->Product. Chad has been making the working production masters for some of his upcoming releases for some time now.

That's reassuring, Myles. At last year's THE Show, I listened to a wonderful recording on vinyl. When I mentioned it to Chad upon seeing him later, he observed the vinyl was sourced from a file. I indicated it had been mentioned in the exhibitor's room.

Do we know which titles may/will be available from Chad?

Hi Sam, this site is growing faster than my memory and ability to find earlier posts. But I persevered and found my post from Axpona. See #39 here. https://www.audionirvana.org/forum/t...ona-2016/page3

Now it was my impression, right or wrong, that Chad has already been working on this tape project release and had made running masters at the same time he was cutting lacquers from the tape.

Thanks, Myles -- I need to get on that list! :-)

As is always the case, for releases by reissue labels like Chad's Analogue Productions, the key will be what albums he can obtain licensing rights to - as we learned at AXPONA:

"I spoke with Chad Kassem about his planned Analog Tape series. In addition to researching his catalog of Analogue Productions releases, the next step will be discussion with the record labels to see which albums can be licensed for release on Analog Tape. Analog Tape fans will be anxiously awaiting word of the first titles in this series scheduled for release later in 2016."
The 2016 edition of AXPONA (also known as Audio Expo North America) was held at the Westin O'Hare hotel in Rosemont, IL just a short distance away from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport from April 15-17, 2016. AXPONA is the premiere audio show in the Midwest. While one will see a number of high end and... Read More ยป

Well then maybe Chad will consider doing what The Tape Project did, and offer subscriptions for a better price than the single tape prices!!!
