It must be tapes from a known brand with their name on it. Burlington used to be a huge tape distributor in the 70-90's. It could be some old BASF or even Ampex...who knows? What I'm sure is that it's not a "new" brand, neither manufactured by them. Just buy 1 and see how it goes...

I have a couple reels here. Tape seems to be in nice shape. I will make a couple copies and listen later.

To do a meaningful test you need to know if your deck's calibration is suitable for them, or re-calibrate it. Do they provide any documentation with it?

There was no documentation but I did recalibrate my Studer A810's record, record treble and bias settings for the tape. Is there something else I should be checking?

Then you should be fine, but I would still be curious regarding their specs.

When dealing with something new I also do a quick scan using a pocket MR1 Minirator - it literally takes seconds, but gives you peace of mind.

David, does the beginning of tape have a hold down tape with similar markings to the Capture tape? I don't remember whether you have purchased any Capture. Both RTM and ATR are much more expensive than the Burlington prices, so it is very unlikely that they are the source. That leaves the Capture source which has a distinctive hold down tape, unless it is removed. Is there a fourth manufacturer of tape? - I heard that maybe a manufacturer from China?

Hi David, that looks like it is from the company that makes Capture. From what I understand, Splicit has a North American exclusive from that company. I'll let Roger know. Thanks, Larry

Let me know what they say. The calibration settings were different from Capture 930 but they do vary batch to batch.

Roger is already aware. The Splicit tape comes from Australia. I believe it's made by Greencorp. Anyway, it's a good tape.

So the Burlington tape is made by the same company that makes Capture's tape? Is it the same tape?

Yes, it is and Roger is not too happy about it.

Nothing to do with tape but I have bought the Burlington reels and found them great. Nice and flat with no warping. I also bought the Burlington reels that said had marks and were cheaper. Darned if I could find anything wrong with them.

Well, it's Capture Tape bought directly from Roger and re-branded. Add a colorful reel and new box and voila! You got a "new" version! At the end: who cares? If it's a good product and available, that's good for us tape users.

I found Capture to be out of stock too often, but BR is in stock. I like that I can get the Burlington Recording tape with customized Reels in colors that I choose at no additional cost. BR sells two lines of product the BR product and if Capture is the same, they only sell one and only when they have it. How can they own a formula they don’t even sell? The exclusivity they claim is nonsense, obviously. I don’t know what’s really going on between the actual manufacturer and Capture but why is support a dealer that doesn’t do customer service in the basic form of stocking the product. If Burlington can do it better, then it’s better for the tape community. You can get all manufactures of tape from one dealer, why is this bad? RTM, ATR and BR, so now there are choices, in stock. Long live Analog!

They buy the tape on hub from Capture and re-brand it. Roger told the story on Tapeheads.
