  • Couple of Studers for sale on CAM

I have no idea if these are expensive or not, but thought I'd post them anyway.

The first one was reconditioned/serviced by Roger Ginsley from Tekx Electronics. Roger is an authorized Studer tech and also Ed Pong's technician. I met Roger at Ed's place and he's a real down to earth guy.

I'm not an expert but the price doesn't seem excessive. He doesn't show the head shape though for the 810.

Agree with Myles' assessment on prices.

There are few things to look for when buying an A810.

    1) The serial number is usually a good judge of machine's age and possible gauge of issues. Of course younger with large serial numbers are the better. On the other hand, resourceful tech can swap parts on very early machines with SN 1000s to work as good as one with SN6000s. All parts on Studer A810 are interchangeable.
    2) without knowing the SN, there are key things to look for a) LED display vs. LCD display. LED display on control panel is younger. b) Four or Three speed selector switch. The one for sale has old two speed push button speed selectors (two buttons below the headphone jack). c) Metal XLR connector release tabs vs plastic ones. Later model has metal type
    3) You can't see from the A810 photos but when the machine is in run mode, the supply and takeup tension rollers must be down 15 deg position from the center of the two larger rollers next to it. If you see the tension rollers in correct positions, you can generally assume the machine had been mechanically calibrated and operating properly.
    4) Under the VU meters is the card rack with transport control and audio cards. You want large rev numbered cards and want to see fresh battery recently install in the MPU card showing the machine had been taken care of.
    5) Of course, you don't want to see any flat area on the tape heads...
