  • IPI Xmas Tape Offer

Jump on this! Jonathan is having a xmas sale for Direct copies right off the master tape. The direct copies are normally $400 and Jonathan is letting go for $200. Production copies are $100, barely covering his tape cost.

In particular, jump on the Pierre Sprey (of Mapleshades) Clifford Jordan tape. The CD was a longtime reference back in '90s and only can imagine how good the safety tape sounds. I also ordered the Brienn Perry and Dee Alexander direct copies. I talked late summer about how good the 2X DSD copies of these titles sounded at the CAF in the Tidal room. And JH now has direct copies available for $200. Great additions to your tape library!!!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dear All,

Hope you all are having a good holiday season.

I have a small but nice holiday special for you all.

First, I have a new release which some of you may already be familiar with. It is Clifford Jordan "Live At Ethell’s.” It was recorded by Mapleshade Record’s owner, Pierre Sprey. It was one of my favorite “audiophile” CDs. So I arranged with Pierre to put it out on tape for you all. It is now ready for sale. The recording is live, natural and beautifully done on the legendary Sony 880-2 tape recorder. I will sell them while i can as Pierre has given me special permission.

I have 4 direct copies of the Clifford Jordan and will sell them for $250.00 each. Once gone, the direct copies right off the master are gone. I think they are a treasure and will be rare.

Along with that new release here are the specials on the stock I have: These are for December only and end 1 Jan 2017. They are on existing stock only and are first come first serve except for the above Clifford Jordan release which is a normal new release and I can run as many production copies as needed.

I think these tapes are special and really worth being in your collection.

    1. ARS Nova Woodwind Quintet - Production copy brand new = $100.00

    2. ARC Nova Woodwind Quintet - Direct Copy = $200.00

    3. Stan Getz Quintet - Direct Copy = $200.00

    4. Jason Roebke - Direct Copy = $200.00

    5. Jason Roebke - Prod copy = $100.00

    6. Dee Alexander Magic - Direct Copy = $200.00

    7. Roanne Hoopes Trio - Direct Copy = $200.00

    8. Brienn Perry Vocals - Direct Copy = $200.00

    9. Clare Fischer - Jazz Song - Direct Copy = $200.00

Well looks like all or most of the tapes are gone. But drop Jonathan a line and maybe one will fall through the cracks.

    jonathan horwich [email protected]

On another note, I asked Jonathan about the tape an old time favorite--in fact I like more than Live at Ethels--The Mellow Side of Clifford Jordan. Seems Jonathan might have a chance to go through Pierre's master tapes so if there any other Mapleshade titles that you love and might want to see released on tape, post them in this thread.

I, too, received the Clifford Jordan tape. If Jonathan's email was accurate that there were only 4 copies available, we are the sole owners.

I agree that the tape is incredible. The recording of the piano, in particular, is as natural sounding as I've ever heard anywhere.

3/4 Clifford Jordan tapes went to AN members. That's cornering the market. Another good reason to be a board member!

I emailed Jonathan today about putting out more of Pierre's tapes. He's seriously looking into it as well as releasing both reels of an album. So if anyone has any suggestions for titles, Jonathan is all ears. I would nominate The Mellow Side of Clifford Jordan.

The West Coast Jazz reel is also superb. Great music and sounds great. It's live so quite different from the Charles Lloyd but very worth getting.

                    Dear All,

I am revisiting and making direct copies of Dee Alexander.

Listening to it again, I was stunned how good it sounds and how incredible the performance is. I had forgotten frankly. I spent a lot of the last year on the Savoy Mosaic 10 CD project.

This is a true gem and I believe will go down as a tape classic.

If any more of you wish a direct copy please let me know as I’ll be done copying tomorrow on Monday and will move on.

The set up time is extensive so I rarely do this.

                    Thank you all.

                    Jonathan

I am set up now and running them slowly but surely but will break down the set up tomorrow to run other tapes such as Bobby Broom, Dee Alexander, Jason Roebke.

Jonathan has a wonderful offer for all tapeheads and members! I am jumping on it and so should you! 😎

                          ___________________________________

                          Dear All,

I have a new release and it is unusual and I am making an unusual offer for me.

The new release was patterned after my fascination with the releases decades ago of vinyl put out solely as audio demonstration records. They were put out to demonstrate great sound and the retro covers always included the terms “Hi Fi” or “Stereo” or some such.

Well I have done my modern jazz version of that. This recording is of drums, vibes, bass, and cello. The sound is as natural as you’ll ever hear. The music is very easy to listen to but different. This is not elevator music. The closest thing to it is the music by Miles Davis, “In A Silent Way.” It has that same kind of vibe to it.

Most of the tunes have a steady rhythmic beat that anchors the performances. I have never heard more natural sounding drums, nor vibes. The group is lead by the drummer Makaya McGraven. The musicians are all world class and play beautifully throughout.

I want people to hear this and to have a “demonstration” quality recording of this unusual type. This really is something different.

                          Hence, here is my offer:

For all who order a direct copy I will do so for $150.00, not $250.00 not $400.00. I will pay shipping in the U.S. I will deduct shipping outside the U.S. by $20.00. Hence US customers get a direct copy for $150.00 even. No shipping expense. Outside the US you pay shipping minus $20.00 on me.

I will run the direct copies all at once so I will first find out how many people want a direct copy and will then run them. So shipment will not be quite as fast as usual. And I will also be running direct copies of the Howard Levy harmonica tape for those who ordered that.

You do not have to pay me right now. And you do not have to ship the tape now. I’ll take orders, put your name on the tape and hold it until you want it shipped with or without other tapes.

I hope you all will take advantage of this offer as I want to make it easy to get this unusual jazz recorded to the highest natural sound.

                          Thanks.
                          Jonathan
