New R2R from FONE

Received this email from Kevin Berg who works with several of the European R2R companies. I don't have any tapes from FONE. I'd be interested in hearing of anyone's experience with them I'm interested in the Beethoven Violin Concerto and the Piazzolla. Both are with the great Italian violinist Salvatore Accardo. Tapes are pretty pricey - $400 a reel, close to double the price of most everyone else. The company says "Original analog master tapes", but also clearly states that these are copies of the masters (Ampex 102 1/2" 30ips master to Nagra 4S 1/4" 15ips). Giulio Cesare Ricci, founder and president of the Audiophile Productions / Fonè began professionally recording his albums recorded with analog systems in 1983 and continues to do so today.
Its analog recorders are:

So far Giulio has produced more than 600 productions in analog that have been spread around the world on Vinyl, SACD and HD files .

- Mastering Personnel : Giulio Cesare Ricci in person realizes all the phases.

The original Master read by an Ampex ATR 102-1 / 2 inch - 30 ips (76 cm / s ) is transferred in real time on a Nagra 4s - 1 /4 inch - 15 ips (38.1 cm / s).
The tape used is an SM900 - RMG - 1 /4 inch reel with metal flange 26.5 cm .
The recorded tape is contained in a cardboard box which has a graphic personalization front / back with the indication of the music, performers and technical notes.
The box containing the "ANALOG MASTER TAPES - Fonè by Signoricci " is packaged in a protective clear plastic bag with releasable adhesive closure .
For the moment each project is one tape only, 30 complete minutes.

They also have/had a sampler tape out that I bought a while back of classical music. IIRC there might have been some other sampler tapes too.

I just got a reply from Mr Ricci.

The two Beethoven tapes are priced at respectively 300€ and 250€. I just confirmed my order.

I have these titles on LP and SACD. Some pretty good music and well recorded...if I was a tape nut, would be hard to pass up. Some of these are available as dsd downloads from nativedsd.com if you want to listen to a sample of the music...

in the OP, some of the tapes are described as 30 cm/sec in error.

Which ones? Interesting to know. I can see the boxes in the illustrations say 38cm (15ips), but that is the for the tapes for sale, not the masters from which they were recorded. Larry

Mr Ricci just contacted me to announce that his tape supplier had the nasty idea to increase its price by 25% and he will need to reflect this in the pricing of his master tapes. All orders submitted by 28 February will still be under the old price scheme.
