  • Tape Pre Switch

Well since the destruction and loss of my Studer thanks to UPS, I have not used my deHavilland tape pre! Today I swapped out the Tubed Repro for the deHavilland, looking forward to a day of listening!

Did you get a settlement and obtained a replacement tape machine Jay? Or you are using the Otari as transport?

I think the situation jcmusic ran into could spur us on to list known shippers that are good. We all known you have to pack very very well but that isn't the point here. UPS is not good at shipping electronic gear. They destroyed an amp I shipped just around the time jcmusic had his Studer destroyed and then lost. My amp was packed very very well. Before his passing I asked AJ Conti who he used to ship his turntables and he said FED EX LTL was the best for him. It is a special Fed Ex service and not every Fed Ex store/outlet provides it. You have to look up the store closest to you or request it for your account if you have one. Does anyone else know of a reliable shipper for electronic items?

          Jonathan,
I have had good luck in the past with FedEx matter of fact that is who I shipped my Studer with, and it arrived perfect in the same boxes the UPS said was not up to their standards. We also use them at the place where I work and never have any issues.

Yes, Fed Ex is better than UPS on equipment. No question. I've not used Pilot Freight. Nor DHL. Bruce are you saying they are good or like UPS?

Pilot Freight and DHL have both destroyed A820's for me.
