  • Finally got one of my dream decks

I have a love of Revox decks, IMO they are reliable, relatively light weight and sound great right out if the box. The one that I have wanted was the PR99 mkiii with ccir eq. Finally have been able to score one from a reliable ebayer. Can't wait until it arrives. I have the feeling that this will replace my modified Otari as my go to deck for Tape Project reels.
System 1- Wilson Alexia 2, Pass XA100.8, Pass XP-32, Pass XP27 phono, Esoteric K1X, P1, G1, Aurender N10, Avid Acutus Ref with SME V and Koetsu Onyx, Studer 807 with Flux heads, J-Corder flux heads direct balanced output, Doshi 3.0 tape preamp, Kimber Select silver, Cardas Clear Beyond power.
System 2 - Harbeth 40.3 XD, Magnepan MMG (rear), Pass X-250.5, Marantz (rear), Pass XP-22, Parasound preamp, Pass XP17, SME 20/3 with SME V & Lyra Atlas & Titan I, OPPO 205, Sony SCD-5400ES, Revox Modified PR99, Revox B77, Teac X2000M, Kimber Select hybrid silver/copper
System 3 - Luxman L-505 UXII, Project Classic SP, Hana SL, JBL L-100 Classic, Oppo 205

Congrats - I hope all is well with it. Great looking deck. I looked at it myself but as I recall it wasn't in the USA? and I did not want to deal with that risk...Enjoy

Congrats! You should get ahold of Brian Tucker, the former US Revox/Studer Rep. He might have a trick or two up his sleeve to get even more out of the PR99.

I've had some time to compare the PR99 to the Otari with flux magnetic heads and the bottlehead tube repro. The results are just as you would expect. The PR99 is very detailed and fast. It is the quietest deck I've every owned both mechanically and electronically. Utilizing the Uncal feature improves the performance even more. Compared to the Otari/Bottlehead it's more analytical but it lacks the tube depth and soundstaging that the bottlehead provides.
