  • Horizontal or upright?

How does your deck sit, horizontally in cart or upright on a shelf? I have a prosumer deck with feet to stand upright, all the pics of seen of studio machines are horizontal or on a slight incline. I read somewhere the transports/motors work better not sitting vertically, any substance to this?

I remember Paul Stubblebine saying somewhere (maybe on the Tape Project site?) that the machines have less W&F sitting horizontally. I thought about it with my deck but how would you get the power cord out of the way? Most pro decks comes in a cart so that isn't an issue.

My only issue is where he is located. Latvia?

I also really like these. I had bought an original Technics plastic cover but it was cracked. They are exceeding rare. He also has plastic covers for Studers, Otaris, etc.

i'm not put off by the sellers location, the shipping seems reasonable. I'll be the guinea pig and will report back

I'm thinking about the plastic cover.

Hook up any machine to a W&F meter. Record the tone and play back the tape you just made. Watch the meter. Lay the machine on its back. Repeat. You will never ,ever listen to an upright machine again,no matter how cool it looks-I promise.

My Studer is vertical, mostly because I got a nice performance increase putting it on a Vibraplane. It’s too large a footprint horizontally for Vibraplane.
