Just a little more current picture of the Doshi with the headphone jack. Although in the newest, newest version, the headphone jack is in the upper left spot where the LED is in this picture and the dials have been slightly relocated. Neither does mine. It came back from Nick last week with his latest internal updates. I also have a different internal front panel - with six sets of knobs for adjusting AES, IEC and NAB overall gain and hi freq.

Not to my knowledge but better let Nick answer that.

Larry, interesting that your front panel changed. I am getting the cap upgrade but not the new head amp. I am sure it is another step up but I'd rather save for the phono stage.

Te headphone output is a real headphone amp which i installed in the demo unit to help me with queuing of tape at shows etc. I offer it as a option on new builds. On older units, it may not be cost effective since it needs a new front panel. Also on newer units, i have widened the window for the adjustment panel. I went to the vishay pots as the previous ones are no longer available and the knobs make it hard to get fingers in the standard opening. The evolutionary changes have come in 2 areas. First - ICW CLarityCap have released a new cap the CMR series which supersedes the MR series which were custom made for my units. These have made their way into all the new build doshi units. Secondly, specific to the tape stage - the head amplifier now has a discrete class a driver output to drive the level potentiometers. Hope that gives you some info

Are those for adjustments one would make with test tapes?

Yes, for example when I play my Tape Project tapes, I use the TP test tape and those controls to adjust the level (1kHz) and high frequencies (10kHz). Also for my safety masters which all have test tones at the beginning of the first reel. I have one safety master that was done on NAB and use that for setting the NAB levels. I don't have any AES which are usually 30ips tapes. Larry

Larry, what repro head do you have on your machine? I have a flux Magnetics head and I am trying to figure out the proper loading.

                          From the owner's manual.

                          Head Loading:

The preamplifier has 3 settings for head loading. The high and medium positions will be correct for 90% of tape heads. Very low inductance tape heads will need the low loading position. To check that the loading is correct – play a test tape with test tones at 1khz, 8khz and 16khz. After you adjust level at 1khz, check HF, the level for 8khz and 16khz should be equal. If the 16khz is low, then the loading is too low. If the 16khz is high compared to 8khz, the loading is too high.
