Akihabara or "electric town" has changed considerably, its now overrun with aname. I haven't been to the store in the vid but there was one multi-story building I visited with a different high-end dealer on each floor.

Yes, Akihabara has changed, all the vintage shops I knew are gone and there seems to be an invasion of low end electronic and souvenir stores and the anime store as you mentioned. Can't get over plastic dolls costing thousands, who's buying them?

You might be talking about Dynamic Audio. They have "themes" at every floor like German high-end, American high-end etc.

Doesn't Singapore have something similar with many of the high-end dealers in one or two buildings?

This is exactly how I remember it. Winston took me there and we spent the whole morning just browsing!

What else do you remember about the store? Anything more than browsing? Tempted?

Yup it's the Adelphi Mall in Singapore. Being in that mall is like being in a small show.

In this vid, it looks like Yodobashi. A block away is Big Yodobashi, which as the name suggests........

Places I dare not go, I would be overwhelmed and max every piece of plastic I have thus descending into financial ruin.

Mind Blowing. More inventory than probably all stores in the U.S. combined.

First was thinking Costco but upon further reflection, maybe Whole Foods.

Pretty much like you saw in the video. Anything money could buy.... but, there was not a "listening room" anywhere. All the really high-end stuff was crammed in little rooms with no way of actually knowing what it actually sound like!

Most of the high-end stores and vintage shops have moved out of Akihabra area during last ten years. All the electronics are 100VAC input so can't bring them home. I go there to buy rare connectors and other metric parts.

Here are a few links to other information about Akihibara and a few stores of interest in the vicinity. Let's see if the multiple links work.

Had lots of trouble with the previous post - can't seem to find a way of using the "post link" button to add multiple links. But embedding links in the text seems to work fine. But couldn't remove the old link - it kept giving me an error. Thus I changed it to a link back to audionirvana - sorry about that.

Anyway, what I meant to say before all the text was lost as I played with links is that I've been traveling to Japan on business for more than 20 years. I often stop by Akihibara and have seen how it's changed over the decades. It's moved from being a haven for electronics enthusiasts with a predilection towards DIY first towards PCs and later towards software and then anime. But if you look around a bit you can still find some places of interest. It's definitely worth a trip. A bit of planning ahead and careful shopping will get you relatively inexpensive flights. Tokyo is relatively easy to navigate for the non-Japanese, so don't let concerns about the language hold you back.
