  • HD Vinyl Coming to Town?

I hear quicker and cheaper. Please tell me what 2x the fidelity means? If this isn't an advertorial....
High Definition Vinyl has the power to totally reshape the vinyl market, and accelerate an already-resurgent LP market.

So it's basically a two plane laser engraving system. For it to work it would have to vaporize the base material, which is easy to do in a single plane but would present serious challenges in a micron range dual plane 90 degree V groove. Any "topographical mapping" would have to be done in the digital realm and it isn't stated whether the music to be engraved would also be in the digital realm.

Not stated is whether the accompanying photo is a mock up or a working prototype. It might be vaporware at this point and never possible to produce in the real world.

And finally, the relevance of the concept is only provable with an actual production disc of a known performance as a direct comparison point.

You'll see those HD records on the back of cereal boxes when/if they become available. The tech doesn't add up to analog vinyl just another digital medium...

I'd like to know what the difference is from current systems. As I understand it, this is nothing new.

There's a difference between having an idea and having a good idea. Good idea - I'm going to have a steak. Bad idea - I'm going to yank the steak out of that large Rottweilers mouth.
