  • Miyabi

Any fans or users of this no longer available cart. I had a Miyabi 47 Labs version and foolishly sold it after it was rebuilt by Mr.Tekeda. Thankfully a friend took it from me.
There has been many versions. Krell, Mark Levinson, Red Rose, 47 Labs, Miyabi Standard, Ivory, etc.. even a Mobile Fidelity Carbon 3.5.

I forgot about the MOFI cartridge. Wow...

I reviewed it back in the '90s for Ultimate Audio. HP gushed over the earlier Miyabi Ivory several years before I reviewed the 47 Labs version. What I remember besides uttering a string of curses was the 47 Labs Miyabi was a beast to set up because the body wasn't tapped. It also rode really, really low. Sonically, and for some reason my old review is no long up at Sakura Systems, the cartridge really excelled at resolution and retrieving that sense of space. Who knows what it might sound like with one of today's higher gain phonostages?

I was recently offered an opportunity to listen to the Fuuga cartridge but had to decline because didn't think it would be the best match for the VPI arm because of its weight and compliance.

BTW, you know Takeda totally disappeared from the face of the earth until he passed away? No one, including his few trusted friends, knew where he was. At least according to Yoshi, who was one of his trusted colleagues.
