Thanks guys. I will be writing about the Etna SL in the near future. It needs to break in and I need to get it optimized.

How is your impression thus far on the Avenger?

It's really far too early to comment since I started at zero hours yesterday, but I will say it sounds better with every hour I play it. I had to set my loading to 100 ohms with the Zesto Andros 1.2 and I hooked up the anti-skating on the VPI arm. If the Etna SL opens up and blooms after it breaks in the way Myles described it to me, this cartridge will be something special indeed.

I affectionately refer to the Dyna XV-1S as Big Foot because of it's profile in the arm. Regardless of cost, the Etna SL has some big shoes to fill so to speak. I can already hear there is more high frequency resolution with the Etna SL though. I played my favorite two cuts from Ricky Lee Jones It's Like This on 45 RPM last night which means Show Biz Kids and Trouble Man. These cuts will give some systems fits due to the bass and overall dynamics. Some systems you will never hear all of the bass that is there and on others that can reach down, you may not like what you hear. The Avenger/Etna SL combo made me sit up in my listening chair last night at what I was hearing with those two cuts. That was the best I have heard the bass definition so far.

Like the XV-1S, the Etna does throw a big soundstage with the Avenger. You get a life size soundstage with instruments that sound correctly scaled with regards to their true size in life. It has the 3D effect that allows you to 'see' the instruments in three dimensional physical space-they take on that type of life.

I too have the Etna and love it, just not the SL. Interested in what you find on the loading vis a vis J. Carr recommendations although it looks like the Zesto has a step-up transformer. Looking forward to your review as well!

The instructions that came with the Etna SL with regards to loading were pretty vague. It was basically listen and decide for yourself. So yes, the Andros 1.2 uses SUTs as the first stage, but Zesto does a provide a variety of loading options for MC cartridges via two rotary switches on the back. I started at 200 ohms, but backed off to 100 ohms. We will see if it stays there after break in.

$9995.00 USD or for me about $13,000.00 Canadian Dollerettes retail, the exchange is killer. We'll see what Trump- Canadian relations does to the spread.

wasn't the Canadian dollar matched with the us dollar just a few years ago?

Yes, it was at par in 2012 . Low oil prices don't help the Canadian Dollar but other exported goods and services will thrive as long as NAFTA is not wiped as far as Canada is concerned.
