Ha I saw that on ebay too! A ebay seller from HK were also selling the ORB inner sleeves that were really expensive too. I lost them off my eBay page but will continue looking. It's only $395.

Another eBay seller calls it the Cartridge Energizer.

Everytime I see Kojo my mind drifts to this:

                  Myles,

This is not a new idea - I own the old Audio Technica electronic stylus cleaner and I remember reading about dealers using it to excite the cartridge suspension before critical listening sessions.

I always mute the preamplifier when cleaning the stylus with it - the amplified noise of the vibration is really disagreeable!

My opinions rely on listening mainly to acoustical, non amplified music. I do not care about electronic music or listening to rock at stadium levels, but I enjoy Mahler and Shostakovitch.

Absolutely and still have my Signet cleaner though don't use it.

Was more a comment about the bad translation from Japanese.

Fremer even recently reviewed this product that is about 1/3 the price of the Orb.

Sorry to hijack your thread Rob. You know if the cartridge heating pad was cheaper, I might consider it for use during the cold winter months here.
Electronic stylus cleaners have been around for decades. Though very popular in the 1970s and 1980s, these vibrating devices rapidly fell out of favor for a very good reason. The older ones incorporated a high frequency oscillator that ran at a very high speed—higher than any musical frequency a cartridge's suspension and motor would ever "see" playing back a record. It seems obvious now that such a high the frequency oscillation might damage the delicate cartridge suspension system, especially back then when high compliance MM cartridges ruled the grooves.

Any particular reason you don't use it? I have one too, and don't use it, but that's just because I haven't figured out what solution to use with it. Ran out of Signet's cleaning fluid about 25 years ago.

This seems like yet another way to catch a cantilever and damage it. Plus heating a cartridge would this not dry it out and age it faster. Never tried a heater most likely I will pass on this one. Any body tried this with any benefit

I know people who used to put lamps over their cartridges to keep their warm. I'm not sure that elastomers are as much of an issue nowadays as in yesteryears.

Other than I remember one manufacturer not recommending it for use with their cartridge? (as Michael inferred.) I wasn't about to try it out on an expensive cartridge. My rule of thumb: if in doubt, ask the manufacturer first. Today's cartridges are too expensive to make a mistake or have an oops moment.
