Transparent Audio's Dir. of Product Dev. Josh Clark with Andrea Brinkmann after a fresh install of a Brinkmann Balance! Yes, that's a Koetsu Azule Platinum that I reviewed a while back for PF! Yes that's a Audio Research preamp with the Doshi V3.0 phono in Transparent Audio's custom designed listening room. Click image for larger version

      Myles,
What were the power amplifiers being used in this Transparent Room? Last time I saw a picture of it there was a cj preamplifier on the rack!
My opinions rely on listening mainly to acoustical, non amplified music. I do not care about electronic music or listening to rock at stadium levels, but I enjoy Mahler and Shostakovitch.

D'Agostino, Doshi Audio and VTL stick in my head but can always drop Josh a line.

This turntable has always interested me. Who knew about setting it up in 28 seconds! Has anyone compared this to a reference quality VPI, Kronos Sparta, or other current favorites? Most of the reviews seem to be from a few years back.

When I bought my Balance several years ago, I tried to compare it against other TT without success. Though I was able to listen to some other great turntables (Simon Yorke S7, Avid Acutus SP Reference), I never had the opportunity to make a direct comparison. I somehow followed my instinct. I don't have any regrets and the Balance TT will certainly remain in my system for several decades. The Balance has known several evolutions since its launch. Mine was the first production unit fitted with the Sinus motor which is derived from the Brinkmann's direct drive turntables.

Brinkmann's are beautiful esp if you appreciate insane levels of machining quality (the surface finish/anodize is stunning). I've heard a few of their models I don't recall being let down in the least and my expectation bias was pretty high.

It would take me more than 28 seconds of deep thought trying to figure out how to get the belt on the motor pulley!

Very easy tables to set up and still very competitive in each of their classes. As long as the support structure is level and stable thats all you need.

I love my LaGrange which is just as easy to set up... I got to listen to it against the Balance many times in the same environment. I would say the Balance might be deeper/darker-- and the LaGrange has a little more energy. Although, comparing to most any other table you couldn't call the LaGrange anything but inky black in its silence.

For a time, the Balance did not have a 2 arm option now it does. The Balance weighs 33kg the LaGrange weighs 30kg
