  • PS Audio Drops Their Dealers and Adopts Direct Sales Model

Dealers have reportedly received a letter telling them their services were no longer required. According to reports, the component’s MSRP remains the same.

    Good or bad move?

Are they going to offer a 30 day money back guarantee?

Is the same sales model going to be used for their soon to be released speaker line!

Bad move you need sales people PS Audio is not a big enough name to create sales on there own they need a dealer showing their product at the shows they will get lost on the hundreds of products on display. 5 years will tell the story if they need to go back to dealers if they can many will not want them back.

As a consumer part of buying a product is a trust it will do the job and you can get it fixed should something go wrong .
Shipping a product out of country or even in country is a pain for warranty or repair

IMO this is a dead end street they are on with no way out

As a PS Audio dealer, I couldn't sell their product anyway. Too much competition and too many channels of sales. Here in Washington state with it's 10% sales tax, any dealer from out-of-state could under bid me and PSA always sold direct-to-consumer on their web site anyway. Plus I am not a big fan of their products.

I suspect with the move to the new facility and their new speaker project, they are hemorrhaging cash big time and are forced to change their business plan. If you look at the costs for speaker manufacturing, shipping and marketing, I don't think they realized that the retail price they were shooting for would not support a 40% dealer margin. Going purely direct-to-consumer consumer is a slippery slope.

Basically the speakers can go from a 6x cost to MSRP for B2B (business-to-business, dealers) to 3-4x cost to MSRP with B2C in one stroke. That way they can still meet their MSRP goal...

I never understood how PS Audio maintained b&m dealers and at the same time, e-tailers sold PS products 20-30% off list, no tax and free shipping.

Yes I think that was a major issue.

All I bought was from them direct as the time there no local venders. Even now who displays them ? It maybe all they have are middle man box movers heck I know two big ones.
Again I don't claim to know the whole industry's makeup.
The man I bought my used ML amps and pre from is a box mover only has tons of boxes in stack. No show room period

In the speech by Danny Devito in the movie Other People's Money where he is a predatory take-over investor talking about changing markets, I can't help but compare that to what's happening in the high-end audio market.

          Interesting move.
Suggests that PS Audio is selling most of their products directly these days.

exaSound has been successful with their direct to listener sales - but they do offer a 30 day money back guarantee.
I wonder if PS Audio will follow suit as you ask.

I wonder how they are going to market and sell their new speakers. No way they will be sold directly. Hope this is not the beginning to their last chapter.

I read Paul M’s book “99% True.” If in fact it is almost all true, I can only wish him luck. He’s had an interesting but topsy turvy life with many bad biz and life decisions. Speaking of topsy turvy, that was a movie about Gilbert and Sullivan some years ago and a wonderful one too. If you haven’t seen it look for it.

This topic har certainly stirred up a lot of dust during the last couple of days on several online forums. Even though PS Audio has been offering direct sales in the US for several years already. What's new is that they will no longer offer their products through US dealers. The setup for the rest of the world through their local partners will remain the same.

PS Audio Introduces Changes to Domestic Sales
US sales soon all factory-direct; export markets unaffected

Boulder, CO, 8/27/19: PS Audio Co-founder and CEO Paul McGowan today released the following statement:

"PS Audio has a long history of shaking things up in the audio industry, and we’re excited to be doing it again. During our 45-year history, we’ve always sold direct to end-users in the US, and we’ve also had a significant presence in dealer showrooms across America.

"Over the past several years, our call-volume to (800) PSAUDIO and factory-direct sales have increased tremendously. We take commitments to our customers very seriously, and we’ve taken many steps to ensure that our customers are happy: that they get the right products, that those products are performing perfectly, and that the experience of working with us is pleasant, and satisfying.

"Customer satisfaction is our highest priority. As we continue our efforts to enhance the customer experience, we are moving towards all US sales being direct from the factory in Boulder.

"We will soon be bringing in new features and options so we can take even better care of our customers, whom we really do consider as part of our Hi-Fi Family. Our extensive network of international distributors will not be affected by any changes.

"Buying factory direct has these benefits:
                    • Sales always come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. There are no hidden fees or restocking charges.
                    • We now offer same day shipping for our US customers, so no need to wait.
                    • We buy back any brand of our customers’ audio gear at its full and original retail price. Details can be found here.
                    • Two-way shipping within the US is always free. If the unit is returned, we pay for that shipping as well.
                    • Expert advice is always available from our Hi-Fi Specialists as well as the engineers and designers of the products themselves.
                    • In the unlikely event a problem arises with a product under warranty, we will pay for shipping to the factory, fix the problem, and return the unit within 48 hours of receiving the product. We will pay return shipping, as well.
"During the next year, we’ll be introducing a number of new products, including our first speakers, and a new integrated amplifier. We look forward to welcoming a new generation to our Hi-Fi Family as we continue to grow!"

We hope to see you at RMAF, and will soon send full details of our exhibit room at the show.

I wonder if pricing is effected now. I bought many products
over the years too. Some direct some online Ebay
always a discount I never had any issues in defects or devices not working as advertised. I may have moved on from them but I can always recomend them to others starting out.
