  • Who still plays CDs here? ~5" silver discs that were hot back in the '80s

With playing digital files and Hi-rez streaming are currently in fashion, who still plays the CDs and SACDs? I realized I still have many CDs in boxes resting. It's time to play them once again and be a rebel.

I don't stream. It is vinyl and cd's for me. There is still a few of us left

Same here, although I did hook up an audioengine B1 so I could ‘stream’ Spotify and Relisten.

I play ripped CDs does that count I kept the CDs but I'm of two minds as to what to do with them, in comparison to used vinyl most old CDs are basically worthless unless they're scarce titles. My heirs can deal with them when im long gone and pushing up daisies.

I do what Analog21 does with primary focus on LPs, but I did just get a used Sooloos and loaded my silver disks to a NAS (I guess this is kinda local kinda streaming?)....Sure makes the digital side of my music life more fun and I saved all the disks but threw away 30 or 40 lbs of jewel cases. Now I have two free shelves in my Studio....

I still spin CD's and SACD's. Just finished spinning the CD of Fiona Joy - Signature Synchronicity in the living room system. My Simaudio MOON Neo 260DT transport connected to my Schiit Audio Analog 2 Yggdrasil DAC sounds spectacular. Love CD's.

I started to play CDs only recently- sure, I had them when they were introduced, but never used them in my main system-- something changed - whether it was the players, the DACs or my ears. I do find a lot of differences among CDs of the same recording, so I've been going down the same rabbit hole I inhabit with LPs-- looking for the best sounding rendition.
I guess I'm also at ease with the mechanical aspects of playing a CD, compared to computer audio (which I also have in a modest way- hell, my entire digital set up is modest). Sometimes, loading a file into Audirvana is a little baffling, and because I am running a Mac Mini headless, it is more time consuming than simply plopping a CD in the disc transport.
I have not done meaningful comparisons between the disc and the rip playing back a file. And my digital rig at the moment does not allow for playback at hi-rez. But it still sounds pretty convincing on the right discs.
My listening does not usually involve a direct comparison to the vinyl LP- in most cases, other than needle drops, the mastering of the disc is different than the LP, though there are exceptions (e.g. Steve Wilson remixes and the like).

I play 20% vinyl, 5% CDs and 75% ripped CDs (ripped my 1500 or so CDs), locally stored Hi-Res files and streaming via my music server.

See dee's? Don't need no stink'n see dee's. Havn't spun the shinny thangs in over 5 years.

But seriously, I primarily keep my Oppo UDP-203 as a universal player in case I need/want to spin a CD/SACD but have had no desire to do so.

I play CDs occasionally on my PC system (using a CD player, not the PC itself). Sounds pretty good, until I play a good Lp.

I have all my CDs ripped as FLAC or Apple Lossless to a hard drive. I’ve also acquired the dsf files for all my SACD disks too. My disk player sits in storage.

Almost daily. I usually play music in the early am before everyone is up. Disc more often than LP lately as I don’t have much more than 30-45 minutes.

Very rarely. I have all my CDs ripped to apple lossless, and most of the CDs are in binders with the jewel cases long gone (it’s actually illegal to sell the original CDs and keep the rips, so I essentially have the CDs in a vault ). But I stream the rips throughout the house with some frequency.
