so it seems with Lps and tapes there is always some small resale value, while with digital downloads and streaming you can never get any of your money back.

This is exactly why I don't do digital downloads. In effect a download comes with an end users agreement, you know, all that fine print that you agree to whether you know it or not. Like the apps for you smart phone that if you bothered to read allows them to mine your phone for all data on it.

          Big brother really is watching.

The most notable one IMHO is the first hi-res release of All Things Must Pass, replaced by a clearly worse sounding version

Over the past year, I've noticed some hi-res downloads from HDTracks or ProStudioMasters that are no longer available. (It's been a while since I noticed so I don't recall which ones they were.)

If you sell an LP or tape, you no longer have the original item that you bought, but if you sell the digital download, you still have the original that you bought, which you can sell again and again. I think there would be less of an issue if when you sold the digital download, you would erase all the copies you had, even the backup of the backup on the hard drive you store with your brother-in-law,
