  • Since a recent Win 10 update, JRiver Media Center keeps buffering on 24 bit files?

As the title states, my Win 10 notebook that I use for a music server running JRiver Media suddenly starting constantly buffering on 24 bit files. It plays 16 bit and DSD files just fine. None of the settings in JRMC changed since the update, and it worked fine yesterday before the update.

I'm using a full iFi stack (iUSB3, iPurifier2, iDAC2) and the most recent iFi AMR driver in ASIO mode.

Anyone else having an issue over the past day or so?

What version of Jriver are you on ?

Have you tried in Jriver going to Tools, Options, Audio, Audio Device, Device settings and checked the buffering settings ?

Got it resolved. After the Win 10 update it re-enabled SRS Premium Sound. After disabling that JRMC 22 works fine on 24 bit files again. I am getting tired of Win 10 updates being very invasive and often causing issues on this notebook. There have been several times where updates have caused the loading of an invalid video driver that locks up the whole PC and blanks out the screen.

Maybe it is time to try a Salk Server or some other dedicated server. Maybe switch to Linux on the notebook I am running now.

There are a few workarounds for windows 10 to stop the forced automatic updates. A google search will bring those up. I chose to stay on win 7.

I've been through all those, and they seem to stop updates for other programs, but Microsoft has become very invasive in updating Win 10 itself. The real frustrating part is when everything is working fine, I really seem to notice an improvement in sound when running in Win 10 compared to the best I was able to get in Win 7. Probably will load Fidelizer on the music server notebook in a few months. Down the road I will either do a dedicated Linux build on this notebook, or get a dedicated stand-alone music server. I'd like to find one that still runs JRiver, as I really like how that software works. Servers that run Roon would be a nice option too.
