  • Best 6550 Equivalent?

I have done the tube rolling that I wanted to do on my CJ Premier 14 and Premier 15 tube phono stage used in a second system) as well as the main system power amp, the Premier 11a.

I'd like to finish up by trying a different output tube than the Svetlana Electron 6550 that are in it. Are the Genelex Gold Lion KT88s still the best option for me? Any other nominees?
Main:VPI TNT V, SME V, Koetsu Urushi, Vendetta SCP2-D, Conrad Johnson Premier 14, Conrad Johnson Premier 11a, Wilson Maxx 2, Inouye power conditioner

#2 Sota Cosmos, SME V, Lyra Clavis, Bryston BP17, Conrad Johnson Premier 15 phono, Classe DR3 VHC, Martin Logan CLS

#3 Classe DR-7, Classe DR3 VHC bridged monos + PSE V monos (bass), Classe DAC1 DA converter, Vandersteen 4A

Assuming that your unit can take KT88s, are you asking for the best reasonably priced options? There are a number of KT88s that sound nicer than the new production Genalax tubes. It really depends on how much you feel like spending.

Well original Genalax are still around but very expensive so wasn't thinking of looking for them. Interested in something around $60 a tube or so.

The Tung Sol 6550's sound great on my premier 8'a's.

never liked KT88's on my cj amps - too fat in the bass and exaggerated in musical delivery.
