  • Class D Amplifiers

Thanks to Merrill, having an opportunity to audition his top-of-the line Veritas amps in my system. I've felt his and Jeff Rowlands class D designs were the best I've heard and will have power to spare on my Magicos! Merrill was kind enough to drop by with them and we had a short, albeit fun time listening to LPs and tape!

Will plug them in when get back next week from a short 3 day vacation/ anniversary! Merrill recommends plugging the Veritas in and leaving them on for 2 days before listening critically. Am really looking forward to hearing the Veritas based on what I've heard at a couple of audio shows.

yeah, going from a analog linear high end tube amp to a switched mode solid state amp does seem like a downgrade.

Yes they are monoblocks. Rated at 400 wpc into 8 ohms, 700 wpc into 4 ohms.

Arent your speakers nominal 4 ohms Myles? If so, you'll be running at 700 wpc. That should provide some awesome bass and general SPLs.

Yes. Well Class D generally does bass well. That is why see some speakers using class d for self powered bass. Also can be shrunk down. Though the Merrill's are no shrinking violets.

I heard these at the LA show with a pair of German Physics speakers. The room was excellent. I didn't realize they were class D until I spoke to someone representing the room.

I heard them too at LAAS the classic music files they played over this system were compelling I stuck around, the system was very good. Merrill picked me of the visitors present for one of his cool tote bags, he's a nice dude to boot.

Being somewhat allergic to most solid state, would taping a tube to the chassis increase perceived performance & my comfort level?

Always remember my position. Not everyone likes tubes and vice versa. I am gifted in being able to explore, try out and report on both roads to nirvana.

Myles do they go down below 2 ohms ? My mid tweeter towers nominal is 4'but dip to 1.7. Always wondered what class d sounded like. Genisis has class d too but some new design that I cannot think of the name now. Have you ever heard them ?

The Genesis amps use Hypex modules and are load invariant. I have used them for years. They are my absolute reference.

Myles - is this because they are brand new? What is Merrills explanation?
