    Thanks for the link Andy!

I might pick Ratliff's book up! There's so much to writing, playing and performing music that I'm only beginning to scratch the surface of and appreciate. I find listening to the various rhythms so captivating. And the differences and similarities between jazz, rock and classical. Gotta tell you what. You aren't going to appreciate all the wonderful things music has in store listening to a computer, iPad or MP3 files. Having a good audio system really, really helps. Even when my guitar teacher comes over now, he asks to listen to what we are working on through my system and not the computer. Of course, luckily have a lot of the music on hand. And that has nothing to do with being a snob.

Of course, there's Aaron Copland's '50s book "What To Listen for in Music."
