  • So What's On Your Must-See List for Axpona 2016?

Off the top of my head:

Wilson Alexxs speakers with Doshi Electronics (and presumably tape)
Magico S5 Mk. 2 speakers (plus Jonathan Horwich will be playing tape in the room!)
    Endeavor E-3Mk.II speakers
    Martin-Logan Rennaissance speakers
    MBL Xtreme speakers/UHA
Ryan speakers (I wasn't impressed at RMAF two years ago but the $13K speaker they had last year at RMAF was a huge step up. Just thought the earlier speaker (~6K) was a little too dry for my tastes!)

    Lampi Komputer

Audio Research (they always have good sound and vinyl too!)
Musical Surrounding (the sound with the Clearaudio front end, Aesthetix electronics and Focal speakers was nice last year)

    Masterbuilt cables

    GIK Acoustic panels

Scouting out the booth exhibit area for vinyl goodies!

And of course those surprises and as I try and do, some great products for the buck.

OK so received permission to release this information. Chris Mara owner of Mara Machines (and also Welcome to 1979; www.welcometo1979.com) in Nashville will be marketing completely rebuilt MCI tube machines. The usual, new heads, electronics, etc. Price yet to be determined. Also check out his studio's site! There's no more dedicated analog facility. Everything now down to the electroplating.

In the course of our conversation--and largely because of the continuing buzz surrounding reel-to-reel tape nowadays (tape won't be records but we're still looking at the same phenomena)--Chris mentioned that many other people who he know that refurbish tape machines who are also thinking of getting into the audiophile market. Of course the advantage is no fuss, no muss, a turnkey approach that comes tested and with a warranty.

Hi Myles please give me a heads up on how the VR-55 does with the VAC electronics. I believe this is the first time they will be shown with tubes in the US.

Absolutely. Hadn't thought about it but when was last time AVS showed any speaker with tubes? The Clearfields with the Counterpoint OTL designed by Modjeski 25 years ago? Last couple of years remember Constellation? VAC should make a nice pairing.

The last time was around 2007 also with VAC but with a speaker that needed one of Kevin's more powerful amps. Jim's got the 450iQs and they did sound wonderful with the 11s and now the 111s. The 200iQs should drive the 55s with ease. This should be interesting.

Actually I spoke too soon. Couple of years ago they showed the 111s (?) with the KR Audio amplifiers.
