  • Music or the Stupid Bowl?

Sorry never been much into watching sports so I am choosing music this afternoon.

I love sports, but football not so much. Big hockey and soccer fan here! I'll be cooking this afternoon and playing some tunes upstairs.

Never been a big armchair sports guy. Never been into spending long periods of time in front of the TV watching someone else play at something I couldnt. I'm too small for football and basketball. In my childhood I loved baseball, then it was golf. Loved watching both. Now it's cycling and in spite of drugs and electric motors, I will be consumed by it as the big races ensue in a month or two. Happily, cycling road races are limited in air time by the networks that broadcast those events so typically it's never more than one or two hours. Heck! Wanna talk about sports? You almost have to do a Pilates class in order to contort yourself into the necessary positions needed to clean your cable terminations and you need to do some lifting at the gym to move your equipment.😜😜😜😜

They should add Olympic categories for power amp moving, the interconnect swap and cartridge alignment.

            You're telling me. I just deadlifted a 250 lb solid-state amplifier!

How about a special category for moving 300+ lb speakers around?

Great idea Marty! I think they should include a competition at the shows!

My standard line has always been: "I don't watch sports. Sweaty men don't turn me on."

So for me the Superbowl is a great time to go to a movie or to go food shopping.

At the SuperBowl of 1982, the first appearance of the 49ers, we were able to get return tickets to see Itzhak Perlman playing a solo recital in Davies Hall, while all the previous ticket holders were watching the game. Great concert. Perlman's enormous tone filled the giant hall. After each set of pieces, when Perlman went off stage for a few moments, he would come back with the latest score of the game!

Now I just go to Costco during the Superbowl - the quietest Sunday you could spend at Costco.

One personal SuperBowl story. My wife Pearl is quite oblivious to sports. So when she was on a plane to DC in early 1989, she was not aware that she was sitting among the entire 49er football team on their way to the White House to be congratulated by the president after winning the SuperBowl. As she was getting off the plane, she heard someone say, "There are the 49ers." Knowing our then 10 year old daughter was a football fan, she decided to get Joe Montana's autograph, one of the few names she knew. She sat on the shuttle across from a grey haired man - "Bill Walsh" another name she knew. He signed her sheet of yellow notebook paper. Then she started looking for Joe Montana - she knew he was white. So she looked for the biggest white guy around, Riki Ellison, the linebacker, signed her paper. Not Montana, she concluded. By that time they had arrived at the main terminal. She followed the team down to get their luggage. She then asked one of the players, which one was Joe Montana. He pointed to an average sized man with a very skinny blonde woman next to him (Jennifer, his wife). Pearl went over and he, too, signed the yellow paper. So our daughter, Jennifer, has a sheet of yellow paper with the autographs of Bill Walsh, Riki Ellison and Joe Montana. Of course, our then 10 y.o said, "Didn't you get Jerry Rice?"

                          Larry

PS - I see my attachment skills are showing up. Sorry the picture is upside down.
