Upgrades are difficult for me, especially now that I'm retired and on a limited income. Not only that, but the economy sucks and the Canadian dollar is dropping like a stone. So any upgrades coming my way will have to be carefully weighed out.

There are two things I'm looking at....a cartridge upgrade or a dedicated phonostage. I'm starting to look around and making various inquiries, so I hope to have an idea by mid-year as to which of those two I'd like to go with. I'm confident, no matter which upgrade I decide to pursue, I'll realize a significant uptick in how the music is conveyed.

One can also look for a used phonostage. Not much to go wrong and can stretch your dollar a little more.

New speakers for me! Not sure why I'm upgrading, I'm pretty happy with my S5s TBH... But dammit, to hear them is to want them!

So we're at the half-way mark of 2016 and what's going on with your system? Made or getting close to making some additions to the family?

Any new or used additions will have to wait until next year as my entire annual budget was used for the speakers.

If money is a stumbling block, I just heard the new IFi Phono 2 at a friend's house. To say it's an over achiever is an understatement. Gain up to 72db and a rainbow of loading options, plus EQ curves for Decca and Columbia. It's classified as a lifestyle item but based on its options and its sound it is definitely an audiophile item. $500 with 60 days audition at Music Direct. I think MF has one and will report on it soon.
