Funny enough, I’ve seen two companies building new lathes. One doesn’t impress me but the other made by Agnew Analogis a real serious effort.
The scary thing is the limiting factor in producing records are the lathe cutting heads and the people who can fix and repair them.Agnew Analog Reference Instruments can supply, repair, or restore Disk Recording/Mastering systems. Please contact us or read on for more. Lathe Projects Section Analog Disk Recording Information Portal What Shall We Call a Disk Recording System An Overview of the Phonograph Record Manufacturing Process How To Learn the Art and Science of Disk Recording/Mastering Sound recording started out towards the end of the 19th century as a purely mechanical process, where the variations in air pressure which we call sound, were represented as wiggly grooves, cut on a cylindrical object. Soon thereafter, the cylinder was replaced by a rotating disk as the storage medium, and the phonograph record was born! It went through various stages of development and refinement, before taking the form of the stereophonic vinyl record, which still survives to this day, over 140 years after the disk medium was invented. Not only is the vinyl record surviving, but despite significant efforts to replace…Myles B. Astor, PhD, Administrator

May I recommend "Mastering for Records. The Methods and problems" by Tony Batchelor? It is available on Amazon as a Kindle Book. Mr. Batchelor is a cutting engineer but most importantly a dealer in lathes- all used. As such he has sold and had more than 95% of the world's lathes through his hands. As the book was written before all the current fluff, he gives a fascinating and to vinyl fans, frightening insight into lathes and the cutting process. I can no longer remember the detail but did you know there were only 3 builders of lathes, one of which only ever built 2 lathes? That less than 10 Neumanns ever underwent the famed Technics Sp 10 Mk 3 motor transplant?
Fascinating. Do read it.
