  • Yg Anat III signatures on the way :)

Traded my Kipod II signatures and some $$$ with a friend for his Anat III signatures, which have the new YG binding post upgrade. Next stop, decide what I'm going to do about higher powered amps, and then add the passive crossovers to bass module. Excited! They arrive Friday evening,

      Hello, Tom,
How large is your listening room? I have only heard the large YG's at audio shows, in mid-size rooms...some material causing an overwhelmed bottom end. Of course, this is in show conditions. Congratulations and best success.
Avalon Time, Walker Proscenium, Koetsu Coralstone, Air Tight PC-1 Supreme, Goldfinger Statement, Dalby record weight, Kondo KSL-SFz step-up, Jadis JP80-MC...heavily modified, Convergent Audio JL-2 Black Path, Sony NS999 ES Modwright modded, full loom High Fidelity Ultimate cables, Rel S-5 sub, Stillpoints ultra and 5's, Shun Mook, Dalby footers, Critical Mass bases, Acoustic System Resonators, Magnum Dynalab Etude, Telefunkens throughout, assorted fuses, Furutech outlets, PurePower conditioner.

            Hi Tom!

            Congrats!

As far as amp choices go, D'Agostino amps are a safe bet. Another one that performed beautifully was ASR Emitter II, as well as the Audia Flight Strumento that our friend Myles reviewed! They were all able to handle the Anat's tough load.

            cheers,
            alex

I don't think room is going to be an issue, 13 X 20 x 9 with stairwell behind me and opening at rear/side of room into 12 x 28 x 9 room. Plus (for now) the bass section is active so adjustments can be made.

I love tube amps so right now the only ones I can afford on that list would be the Mcintosh 2301s. Another tube option would be a second pair of BAT tube amps, since heat isn't an issue in this room. I don't listen very loud and I've listened to a lot of amps on these speakers.
But in the end probably the new D'agostino classic stereo or BAT VK-655se, however if I'm a little sneaky a stereo Tenor would be my dream amp.
Not having to drive the bass section opens up my choices. pretty flat 3-4 ohm load and 88db is not that bad. These are our third pr. of YGs and going on 6 years with them, I'm happy, my wife is really happy, she bought our first YGs (Carmels) at first Axpona in ATL. She was the one wanting the Kipods after hearing them at RMAF a couple years after that.

My favorite YG systems have been with either the Tenor, or BAT REX electronics. Listened around 6 hours to the Anats last night, between 80-90db at listening position. Listening again right now. The VK-150se are on the 4-6ohm taps. Purring like kittens Transformers never even got above warm. Still need to spike the speakers, but I'm happy where we ended up with them in the room. Getting them down a 180' walkway (in the dark) of steps was less than fun. Big, Big, thanks to Mike and Becky Burns of Wolfsong Audio in Atlanta for delivering and helping set them up. Off to do the tourist thing in DC for the next few days with them. Have a great weekend people!
One other nice little bonus was they came with a 30' pair of Kubala Anticipation XLR cables to run to the sub sections.

What speakers wouldn't the Tenors sound good with?

They sounded great in system using Wilson XLFs in December. My only thought is that the Tenors may be a little dark and rolled off in the upper octaves. Something that's been a characteristic since the very beginning.

That's probably what I liked about the tenors. The Tenor and REX amps sound very close when used with the YGs. Their sonic signature is cut from the same cloth, and when used with the YG Anat III I am in Audionirvana.
I wish I would have never sold my REX pre/Rex mono setup. The only reason I don't purchase it again.......I'd have to go back to work, and that ain't happening!

I heard them at Taves, fantastic sound, great midrange. It's too bad they don't have a stronger presence here in the states.

Even the website isn't a lot of help. You have to email Tenor to find a dealer that carries their products.
