  • Think We Have a Little Vested Interest?

Couple of years ago Neil was touting vinyl. Now it's passe.

Neil also conveniently leaves out all the vinyl made from analog masters too. Not to mention are all digitally derived albums created equally? That's what happens when one makes sweeping generalizations.

I have NEVER seen one in use on a plane or anywhere you'd think you might find it.

My limited experience with kickstarter success (?) products is that by the time they are ready to go into normal distribution, there is a rather long period where the target market is already saturated. I would not be surprised if PONO , the now anti-PHONO, is in exactly that kind of a phase right now. Now word of mouth about real world performance and no just a compelling story has got to carry them forward. In other words they had better have had delivered on the promises.

What happens when you get all these commitments then it turns out that, that is pretty much it? What if you're thinking to yourself that what you're getting is just the tip of the iceberg but in truth You've pretty much gotten the whole block of ice? Man that must suck BIG TIME. If I were to do a kickstarter campaign I would be very careful not to make bold assumptions based on my campaign figures. All in hindsight of course.

The digital world is saturated with new products that promise to bring you to the digital promised land. We now have digital gear that compresses a recording and makes it sound better than the original hi-rez file used for mastering. We even have a light that lights up on the DAC to let you know the file has been "authenticated" by the original engineer and musicians even if they are dead. Digital is awesome. It was born perfect and it keeps getting more perfect every year.
