Live recorded music events and sound quality

I have a bunch of unplugged and rock and roll hall of fame recorded and some from you tube HD. Why are these events very good while others I buy not so ?
There is a very good one with prince naming while guitar gently weeps. I know the mixing jumps but he clarity and demention is there .
