  • An "Are You Old Enough to Remember Moment?"

The electronics mogul, whose late night commercials are still remembered by many, presided behind the scenes over a massive con game. Before being eclipsed by the much larger Ponzi scheme of con artist Bernie Madoff, and the accounting scandals at Enron, the shell game at Crazy Eddie was considered one of the largest securities frauds ever uncovered.

Sure, I remember both the commercials and him for that matter. Met Eddie at his store on Kings Highway in Brooklyn. A close friend was auditioning speakers and really liked the JBL L100's. Eddie offered him the pair for $400 but only if my friend paid for them in cash which was more than he had on him. So, we went back to my parents house in Canarsie, my mother fed us lunch, loaned him what additional cash he needed and we returned to the store and he bought the speakers.

A couple of years later my wife-to-be and I went to the same store, Eddie wasn't around though, and bought ourselves a quadraphonic system as our wedding present to ourselves.

      Good memories. Thanks, Myles.

Just as a point of information, the actor in the commercial is Jerry Carroll, a disc jockey that was on WPIX-FM in NYC during the 70's and 80's and not Eddie Antar.

Being from South Florida as you are, hardly a surprise. I was just trying to give some folk a feeling for what Myles was talking about for the rest of the planet.
