  • Goldmund Apologue system just installed on Long Island, NY

This particular customer has "special requirements" with regards to hearing in a large space. He needs and prefers the space of the installation, which he has been using for 20 years as his listening space/room. This space in his home works for him although the system could have been installed in larger spaces in the home.

Certainly a smaller set of Goldmund active/wireless speakers would have been sufficient in the space used for the Apologues, BUT this customer understands all of this and still wanted the Apologues and after much contemplating and listening to Apologues in other small spaces made the decision to proceed. Now that they are are installed he is in love with the sound and the aesthetics in the room. The pic makes the room look smaller than it seems when in the room. The room is actually 22' W X 20' D. The wall where the Apologues are placed is 15' W which works just fine.

The Apologues would normally be installed in a larger space, but if a small space is ideal for the customer, which it is in this case, the Apologue are DSP controlled and can be made to sound ideal depending on the customers requirements and preferences.

This room size space and the Apologues might not work for most others, but it works perfectly for this customer.

So I'm thinking that either this guy is single or he has so much money he doesn't give a damn what his wife thinks because those speakers would rate less than a -0 on the WAF. I would like to hear them in person though as a data point.

Honestly, the owner Patrick and his wife Carmela are very good friends of mine. They have been customer's for over 10 years. They are wonderful people and both he and she already love the system after one day. And no he doesn't have so much money that he doesn't give a damn, but he enjoys his system and if he saw your system, no matter what it was he would compliment you on it and hope that you enjoyed it.

This Apologue system is #22 of only 25 that will be built.

Thx Christian I know before I even post something like this is going to get blasted, but I do it anyway as some people appreciate it.

Sure the speakers would be GREAT in a large room....duh, but this customer has this room and will NOT be moving. He's had systems in this room for 20 years (expensive systems) and he enjoys the heck out of it.

We just finished in the install yesterday and already in 24 hours I was amazed at how much I personally like the sound today. It is intimate, neutral, one shade warm, clarity and resolution galore and if you were sitting in the room you would feel very comfortable with the speakers in the room or at least this customer does and that's all that matters to me

No price police here Christian. I was just commenting on their looks with regards to WAF.

Depends on the wife. I know several wives that love the look of the Apologues, and many interior designers as well.

      Hi Allen,

Hope all is GREAT! Here's from a thread over on WBF

      Hi Caesar,

Ok, first they are completely active and if you choose completely (other than one power cord per side) wireless.

They have separate Goldmund DACs and separate Goldmund Telos amplifiers for each driver (not box) in the system, plus over 30 dsp's per side.

The sound is high resolution and clear, think Swiss, but the last few generations of Goldmund products have I hate to say it but a bit of welcomed warmth, but just a tint, mostly neutral.

      The bass is world class.

When set up in a large enough space they throw a true 3D holographic soundstage, with density and body to the individual instruments and because of the clarity and precision the harmonics coming from each individual instrument are very discernable.

Honestly, I have maybe 30 Goldmund customers and they actually love their systems more than my regular audiophile customer do. My regular audiophile customers are always messing with their system (because they like to of course) but the Goldmund customers seem to just forget about upgrading and changing things and listen to their system for hours each day and just focus on the music.

I have one Apologue customer who has Ferraris, Bentleys, Race Horses etc. He says take any of that stuff away, but don't touch the Apologues.

It's not for everyone, nothing is, but for many global Goldmund customers, the new active/wireless systems work really well for them.....sort of depends on the customer and their situation.

Goldmund also has 10 models starting at $5K up to $540K for the Apologues, and each model using the exact same technologies.

Thx for the "teeing up" the commercial

I remember hearing the smaller brothers at your place and the system was definitely impressive, esp the mids.

Fascinating. It looks like the speakers can be individually time-aligned.

How big is the listening triangle? What type of music does your customer play mostly?

Hi, He only listens to very simple music, nothing congested. Opera, light/smooth jazz ie Chris Botti certain Miles Davis...there are reasons that I won't go into here regarding why and what he listens to. Feel free to call or pm if you would like further detail.

The speakers are controlled by a configurator with all adjustments being done in the digital domain. You set all parameters via a configurator on your computer and then load the preferred configuration into the digital processor which sends the signal to the DSP's which front each dac and amplifier, which there are separate DSP's (several) DAC and amp per each driver.

There is Goldmund written Leonardo SW that optimizes time, phase and amplitude for the incoming audio signal to each dsp/dac/amp/driver so that all of the drivers work in unison.

Most importantly everything can be adjusted in real time via the configurator to the user's room/preference.

Thank you so much for posting this.

When the first Apologue was launched in the 80s the only other mega speakers were the enormous Infinity IRS and the seriously un-styled Wilson WAMM. Into this scenario arrived an all black sculpture by an Italian artist. Remember this was the era when the gangrenic frog like all black Porsche 911 turbo was considerd the ultimate in chic,

Wonderful to see that the styling of the Apologue, like the Barcelona chair, has survived albeit with cutting edge internals.Unfortunately like an ageing actress with too many updates the Apologue now appears a little odd with its new colours . Nevertheless it is wonderful to see it in use in an actual living space and not on display in some trophy room crammed with other speakers, multiple monster amplifiers and the inevitable array of classic turntables aligned in front of it.

My first real audio love for serious loudspeakers - if I leave the Spica TC 50 out - were my Goldmund dialogue and after that Goldmund super dialogue loudspeakers. Furthermore at the time - and I am speaking about quite a long time ago - I liked the Goldmund Analogue a lot; a Dutch audiophile in Rotterdam had one. Always loved the looks of the Apologue loudspeakers and at that time I lusted for a pair but due to their price and my space constrictions I had to let the dream of owning a pair go. In the end I preferred the sound of the large Genesis loudspeakers and went buying a pair of Genesis 1.1 loudspeakers.

I never heard the current production Apologue loudspeakers but I still like their looks. Maybe some day I will have a chance to give them a serious listen (also for old times sake😍).

Rudolph, Come to the Big Apple for a listen or if you are ever in Geneva please let me know and I will arrange a visit to the Goldmund listening room......"just for old times sake"

I think people would be surprised at the sonic quality of the current Apologue or for that matter even a Satya or Anatta system. Goldmund has really "upped their game" sonically over the last few generations of their technologies, which once understood is quite sophisticated although as easy as could be from a user's perspective.

I think back to the days when I had a full Goldmund system - Mim 2, Mim 3, Mim 4, Mim 10P, Mim 36, Studio and Super Dialogues. Sold it all over time save for the Studio Turntable which I use with a Graham and Spectral. Probably should have left well enough alone, and I suspect that system would still provide wonderful musical enjoyment today.

Thanks Bob. Maybe I should pay Wisnon (Norman) a visit in Geneva; he visited the Goldmund factory at his home place and listened to the current production Apologue loudspeakers. But a visit to New York sounds appealing as well 👍.

That said - and just to be sure - I am extremely happy with my Tidal La Assoluta loudspeakers.

Rudolph, Actually Norman heard a first version of the new Apologue a few years back now. The latest version is the one that should be heard. Norman actually preferred the Anatta, but again the latest version is the what I am referring to regarding sonics.

I would have no intention of suggesting that you look or listen to the Apologue to replace your incredible Tidal speakers....I meant just for fun

      • #13
Thanks Bob. I did not know that Norman listened to a first and not the latest version of the Apologue speakers. And yes, listening to (other) top quality audio set ups is fun, interesting and sometimes you can even learn a few things. Let's see what the future will bring. If I am going to visit the big apple in the future, I will definately give you a call.
