    Vinyl album sales out-perform digital downloads for first time

    Last week, in the UK

    Vinyl albums have out-sold digital downloads for the first time ever

      I wonder what percentage of LPs are sold online vs via a B&M store. Curious because there's something special about going through bins of records.

          I suspect that is mainly because younger people are streaming their music instead of downloading it.

                              There certainly are more of them than ten years ago and not getting cheaper, so I'll guess the market is growing. With use of cavitation technology and greater automation they're reaching appliance status. On the other hand the Smart Devices company who sold the Loricraft line is apparently no longer around - not sure what their story is.

                                      I don't know about market size, but the interest from vinyl fans (not necessarily audiophiles) is very strong. Just look at the multitude of threads on vinyl cleaning over at SHF.

                                          Most places a new vinyl fan goes to shop do not have a record cleaning machine. Unless they really catch the audio gear bug, it is quite possible that they will never encounter a record cleaning machine.

                                              True though I see more and more stores with RCMs too. It's interesting that you even see a few sellers on eBay note the records were cleaned on say a VPI machine.

                                              Once they see the machine, they get it and want one!

                                                  The bigger sellers on eBay find people like us buying from them and will quickly tire of complaints about the cleanliness of their records so they acquire a RCM to shut us up!

                                                  You're right in that once most vinyl fans become aware of RCM, they want one. They'll think the prices of most of the RCM's are insane, but they want one.

                                                      Funny, I think the first RCM that I bought, the very first Nitty Gritty machine was around 500. There are still machines in this price range and they work better than that machine from back in the '80s. Hell there's even the Spin Clean. Even saw the Okki Nokki on Amazon for $500. That's really cool to think about! (no Teflon lips on the vacuum any more to ruin the records while cleaning.)
