  • What Do You Enjoy the Most About Getting Together With Audiobuddies

I have to say this has been an enormously fun weekend and reminds me of why I love this hobby! First, I had an old time audiophile (one of my client's fathers who was an audiophile in Boston's '50s heyday) over on Friday and then Marty Waxman, another audiophile that I've gotten to know over the past couple of years over today. Sadly in this day and age of social media, texting, email, etc often substitutes for the real thing and the human contact element of this hobby has been getting less and less. In some ways the audio hobby (and life) is more and more becoming a solitary endeavor. Even in a city of 8 million. And it was great hearing their observations and getting their feedback on my system. After all, it's not unlike writing an article. You look at it long enough and there's a point where you can't pick up errors. The same holds true for our audio system and it's always great to get a fresh pair of ears opinion. Agree or disagree, it's really fun listening together and doesn't have to be a solitary endeavor!

So when was the last time you've had buddies over to hear your system and what do you like most about and aim to get out of your get togethers?

Good Lord, how could you have possibly left off drinking someone else's single malt scotch. Admittedly that would have a tendency to color ones perceptions during the listening experience.

Myles-I would have to choose "All of the Above." It's always great to spend time with a fellow 'phile and get a fresh set of ears on your system. It's also great to spend some time with someone you care about and enjoy being around.

Yes audiophilia is quite a fraternity. There aren't too many hobbies where you can meet a complete stranger and feel like you've known each other for years.

For our group of five, who's systems ranged anywhere from 5K to 50K, it was all about social interaction and music. Most of our listening was vinyl based and we always managed several shootouts. We'd get together about 3 times a year and each one lasted 6-8 hours. Ribs and beer were staples. In addition to this we also got together twice a year for RSD and usually ended up at a local Pub for a few end-of-day cold ones. Miss those days!
