  • What model studio headphones are you using?

hey all, I've been enjoying a pair of Sony professional MDR-F1 phones for about 10 years now. Very smooth sound, easy to drive, and
very comfortable (can be worn for hours without fatigue ). I bought them from Japan direct, I currently use the headphone amp in my denon preamp
(don't have a dedicated phone amp). What make and model phones and phone amps are you all using?

Based on our small sampling, it seems Sennheiser is most popular brand.

I had Sennheiser HD800s until I sold them (little use). They were great, but didn't use them as expected.

I find that cans are indispensable as a tool for chasing down ground hums and trouble shooting cartridge issues or any situation where you want to isolate your ears form the room and extraneous noises for said purpose.

I don't use my phones much either (only sometimes late at night when I wanted to jam loud ), that's why I haven't bothered to buy a headphone amp yet.

I am A long headphone guy as well as speakers. The use of them is key to what I would Recomend for you .
The hd800 is top in clarity without going into stats . Now as they are clean and give the most staging of any headphone I have ever heard . But this comes at price , and don't beleave in the so called bump in eq that makes them seem fatiguing way. It's really chain feed it a good source and matched amp those headphones get you about 80 of a stat in speed and clarity . Surpass imaging and have more weight .
Now the principle difference of any headphone to speaker comparison is its ambience . They seem flat to any good speaker that images well. Witha piano it rings clean with over tones , but lacks the room the piano is in .

If you have a good source and want a great phone do the hd800 and there hdvd 600 amp , but your chain must good or you running away. A tube amp can help by adding warmth and in some cases makes it more Musical. My lampi head DAC drives them directly to perfection , I helped luk make the DAC this way . As you go down the line in seenhisr you loose clarity period it's why most like the models below the flagship . I do feel adding tubes in the chain makes almost any headphone more musical . If you live in the NYC area I would be happy let you hear my collection . I am sure ypu would walk away witha very different view of them. The LCD line is a laid back midrange and bass heavy phone , but in being a bit reseed it's much more forgiving of what chain you own. For me I miss the reality of more neutral phone .
