I have always liked ProAc's. When matched to the right electronics, they sound very natural & musical. Thanks for the video. On a side note, I preferred the looks of the Carbon Series(Carbon 6 & Carbon 8) to the K6 and the new K8. I believe the Carbon series was a little more pricey.

I loved the look of the Carbon series too, I have just gone and purchased a pair of K6's in Ebony finish for my system, still love the look of the K series, maybe not as much as the Carbon series but the sound is just so lush.

Congrats on the purchase! ProAc's in Ebony are really sharp. Have you taken delivery of the K6's? I have heard that the ribbon's take a little time to break in. I've listened to both the D40R and the Carbon 6. Both sounded great. In essence, the K6 replaced the Carbon 6. I am sure they sound awesome!

Thanks Hawk, I should be receiving them this week, looking forward to owning some ProAc speakers again, I have owned 3 pairs in the past, D15, D25, D28 so these will be my 4th pair of ProAc speakers, they are some of my favourite sounding speakers as well as Wilson Audio and Wilson Benesch having owned all 3 manufacturers at some point over the last 20 or so years.

Beautiful, I love the look of the Carbon Pro 6, I have gone for the Ebony finish in the K6 which will be this finish, I could only find an image of the D48 in Ebony but you get the idea :-)

Very different looking ProAcs than I am used to seeing. I remember the light ash (?) finish. Beautiful finish! Was it standard or an optional finish?

              • #10
Very interested in your opinion on the K6. I am sure it will look and sound stellar. ProAc does not change things for the sake of changing. For it to essentially replace the Carbon 6 in their line-up, I am sure you will be pleased.

Nice post by Soc on the Carbon 6. On a sad note, I had a chance to pick up a pair of Carbon 6's in Rosewood about 3 years ago. The price was pretty good and they looked great. I waited a little too long and of course someone snatched them up. Even though it was a stretch for me in the wallet dept., I regret not buying them. Kind of like the girlfriend that got away.

@ Myles, it was an optional finish not standard which adds another 2K on top of the overall price.

I received them this week and to say I am pleased is an understatement, they look and sound fantastic, they are running in atm but even so, they sound so good. Here are some pictures that I took when I received them

Are you running them single or biwired? Does ProAc recommend one over the other?

Hey Miles. How about a review of the ProAc K8? Audio Beat had a very positive review of the K6. This can be followed up by Giancarlo and his new Ebony K6's. I have never seen a review of the K8. I believe the Sound Organisation distributes in the U.S. I know you are busy. No worries if not enough time or interest. Thanks!

I have sworn off speakers for the time being. I just don't have any place in my apt. to store my Magicos. Not if I want to stay married and I want to make #2 work! But point well taken.

Hello Myles, no I did not ask ProAc specifically about the K-6's but I have previously owned 3 other pairs of ProAc speakers and found that they have benefitted from being bi-amped not bi-wired. Mine are connected with Transparent Cables Ultra Gen5 speaker cables, single run.

                      Hi Hawk,

The ProAc K6's are still running in but the sound from them is the best I have had in my current system, the bass is so fast and deep but with articulation and every tone is full of texture and string instruments almost feel tactile in response, the mids and highs are just so beautiful and powerful with micro dynamics which sound incredible with every shift in sound, the top end is just delicious with brass instruments sounding so real that it is scary how real these speakers portray each and every type of music I put through them. You can say I am very happy with my choice and you would have to spend some serious money to achieve better results. Stewart Tyler is a genius in how he has designed these speakers as they simply disappear and spread a wide and deep soundstage, producing some of the best stereo results so far in my current room. I have listened to many systems in my time but this is one of the best sounds I have heard and I am talking speakers which cost 4 times as much at least, I hope I am putting across how pleased I am?

Thanks for the update. I have heard the ribbon tweeter on the ProAc's takes a long time to sound their best. Its great that they are working out so well for you. As they continue to break-in, they will only get better. I may be looking at a new pair of speakers myself after my daughter finishes college(hopefully in a year and 1/2) The K6's will be at or close to the top of the list. Question: Are you using your ML sub with the ProAc's?
