  • Speaker wire gauge

while I am sure specialty wires matters I don't have the money for them
in going from two Amps behind each tower to make things neat I needed a longer cable. I used 12 gauge zip cord pure copper. Each is 4 feet now where before they were 1 foot. I do feel the sound changed and will put them back to compare. This is something I always do when changing cables. Going back and forth gives me a better evaluation. The shorter cable was 14 gaguge
    any ideas.
    analog stuff.

I've always used 12-gauge as that is the gauge most often recommended.

I wonder which makes more of a difference though....gauge or length?

If I were to go commando with speaker wires then 12g would be the easiest. With connectors I would go 8g.

Honestly I have 12/10/8/6 gauges all but 12 gauge are MIT speaker wires. To me shorter is better. Tonight I will try double 12 gauge by using two conductors of each zip
          cord per pole
          analog stuff.

Try the two lengths side-by-side, then compared to twisting them together.

I find that when comparing cables, especially, I need to listen for an hour or more before switching. Best is to wait until the next day, play a few songs on the ones you've just become used to, then switch.

Audioquest has a good bulk wire called X2. Pretty cheap. I DIY'ed two runs for a Bi-Wire config. Less than $100 including AQ bananas.
