Hey... I bought a Pioneer SX-1250 and had to take it back because it wouldn't work. They had been discontinued so they gave me the newer model, SX-1280, to replace it! I had one of those Soundcraftsman Graphic EQ's in the tape loop connected to a pair of Cerwin Vega speakers!!

Back in my college days, it was ultra-cool to have one of those big boy Marantz receivers. With that balanced tuning knob with that silky smooth feel. And even cooler when companies like Harman-Kardon came out with those quad receivers. A fellow down the hall that had four Bose 901s in his tiny dorm room driven by his HK receiver.
Chic magnet? Not so much.
IIRC, my first post-college system was a Sansui 5050 receiver, Dual 1019 turntable and Audio Technica cartridge and Ohm D2 speakers. Overhang? The salesman rolled his eyes up into the back of his head when I asked about that..gif "floor1")

I never went the receiver route. When in college in the 1970s and ready to buy my first "real" stereo system, I went for a Kenwood KA-3500 integrated amp. Still have it too, though it is currently packed away in storage. My brother still has and uses the Marantz 2230b he bought in the 1970s, He still uses the Large Advents he bought at the same too, though he upgraded to a ProJEct turntable for it some years ago.Steve Lefkowicz
