I hate to crap all over Johns Dead Can't Dance thread so I thought we needed our own Audio Show funny or disturbing stories. I can't wait to hear what the show veterans have experienced.

Come on Myles let's hear them. I am sure you have some great ones. Save the best for an evening at Axpona, I am sure they will be better in person.

Do you want audio or non-audio stories from shows? Like waiting for the elevator in the Sahara Hotel (when that hotel hosted CES and the AV show) at 3 AM in the morning and the door opens and there's two female adult video stars having sex on the floor of the cab? Or every time there's one adult video star that I always see? Ron Jeremy?

Myles has probably been to more shows in one year than I have been to in the short time I have been going to shows for the last 4 years or so. One time I was at RMAF in a room and people wanted to hear vinyl. The guy they left in charge of the room had no idea how to operate the table and play an LP and I took over for him and played LPs. Some of the exhibitors hire young hotties to stand outside their rooms to help drive traffic to their rooms and it usually works.

Every year I lose count of all of the digital-based rooms I go into and there is no music playing because their digital crashed and they can't get it back on line. Axpona surprises me because they seem to attract more young people than RMAF does and their are usually some women that come as well.

One year I was at RMAF hanging with Myles and we went into Ron Sutherland's room to hear his phono preamp. I made the mistake of sitting in a great seat and Ron promptly asked me to get up and let Myles have the good seat.

Oh and Greg of UHA puts on an awesome after hours party show playing tons of tape in his room. Greg provides the beer and wine and everybody gets liquored up and has a great time listening to tape.

No actually I'm really embarrassed when exhibitors do this because I'm a reviewer.

Have you ever had an exhibitor stop mid sentence because a "better known" reviewer walked in, and had them direct him to the seat you just sat down in, while acting like the chair is empty? I have. Needless to say that company has never been mentioned in one of my show reports since!
Have you ever had a manufacturer stop you from taking a photo of his product so he can condescendingly start telling you how to take a good photo? I have (and I've been in the photo industry for about 40 years). That's another company that will never appear in one of my show reports.

The first thing that comes to mind is that I really miss the old Stereophile shows. Granted they were the only game in town but we'll probably never see another audio show with over 12,000 audiophiles in attendance (one of the Waldorf Shows). Seemed like every and any audio manufacturer was there. I'll never forget the Jadis Eurythmie horns. They definitely took a little getting used to!

                            I can see that.

Another favorite haunt for many attendees at audio shows is Roy Hall's room for a snifter of single malt scotch.
