  • Some Saturday Pictures from Fifth Annual Audio Exotics Show

Chris Leung, organizer of the Audio Exotics Show in Hong Kong, was kind enough to pass along some pictures from today's demo. The AE Show is one of the premier high-end audio shows in the world and features some of the world's best audio equipment! Many debuts of new electronics, front-end components, speakers and accessories.

One of the systems featuring the brand new Gobel Divin speakers from Germany. It took five people to move each speaker and this repeated 50 times to find the optimal position. Both the 8 and 18-inch drivers were specially designed by Oliver Gobel. Some of the other gear included amplifiers and electronics from Zanden, turntable from Vertere, etc.

Reason was asking David is that have never seen those Zanden units ever at a US Show. So wonder where their market is? Obviously Hong Kong is one. Or is AE the only place?

There's fierce regional competition between Asian distriutors for the same markets the Chinese price shop like the rest of us so some importers demand exclusive models, not a new practice and common with many luxury products. That said I don't know if these models are AE exclusive worldwide or just in Asia.

Massive new 260lb. per side Zanden KAUN monoblock amplifiers. To the outside are the Zanden Chouku monoblock amplifiers created by Yamada exclusively for Audio Exotics to commemorate his 60th birthday. In case you're interested, those are STC4212 output tubes. Skogrand cables are also being used in the system. Also returning this year to the AE Show are Kevin Tellekamp's Virginia Class XL+2 bases and Craz racks.

From Sweden comes the statement Engstrom Eric amplifier. This 70 wpc, PP, zero feedback amplifier uses the new KR T-100 triode output tubes. Dalby Jundo speaker cables were used between the Eric amplifiers and the Cessaro Qian Long horn speakers.

Great photos Myles. Most of the products we see there are (unfortunately) not for the mere mortals but an opportunity to see and hear such state-of-the-art systems is also worth something. I visited Audio Exotics with a few friends last autumn and had the luxury of hearing Zanden Choku, Jinpu and Chukoh electronics with top Tripoint grounding and EMI filtration system...etc and the experience was really breathtaking. We have heard some things nobody (of us of course) has heard before and even if it would be only that, the travel would be 100% worthwhile. IMO there is nothing more worthwhile for an audiophile as an experience to hear "new" aspects of audio reproduction and AE certainly has the potential to fulfill such desires.

Anybody knows the power rating of Zanden Kaun amps?

Indeed I've heard the AE System PT( Chris) is fine host and the Demo setup, most of pictured above was -I agree, with Marcus was breathtaking.

The Speakers at the time were the Cessaro Carmens. Its worth considering the ancillary equipment used --the cabling Grounding/etc-I was

especially aware of the difference in presentation when Chris unplugged the Emperor Tripoint --the soundstage collapsed and the recorded Hall

dimension seemed to shrink--the reinsertion was very noticeable for the better--Wish I could afford one -ha!

                Back to reality

I can imagine what you experienced when Chris unplugged the Emperor ground from the system. Now imagine another lever of purity, naturalnes and virtual reality imaging that comes with the Empress EMI filter. When Chris unplugged Empress from one speaker, everything collapsed into a still solid soundstageing but a very important level of realism was missing. Once you experience this, you're done, you're "assimilated" and "resistance is futile" or something like that. Please excuse my enthusiasm but I'm not the only one who was floored. There were five of us in this demo and this was one of the very rare moments when we all agreed on something. Imagine five classic music lovers and audiophiles with always different opinions and different audio philosophies that agree 100% on something...Yes, sometimes miracles can happen.

Besides all the BLING that is incorporated in some of this gear visually I find it hard to believe that it's sonic performance surpass so much other great gear that is out there without such an astronomical asking price. To all who have experienced the event live is my analysis off the mark? IMHO this type of event while fun is for those folks who have are willingness to show how deep there pockets are?
