Some quick comments before turning in and giving my pillow some head. (Thanks to David Byrne for that.)
Axpona said goodbye to the old airport Westin Hotel and signed a three year deal to hold the show at the huge Rennaissance Schaumburg hotel/convention center. With that, JD Events pulled out all the stops and this years Axpona 2018 may now be the largest US high-end audio show. Attendance-wise, the biggest show I ever attended was the Stereophile Waldorf-Astoria show with in the neighborhood of 12.5K attendees. Then again, there was only one audio show a year. This year should easily top last years’ record 6500 attendees.
This years’ show has around 2-3 times more large rooms on the main floor of this widely spread out show plus another eight more floors of smaller rooms hotel rooms filled to the brim with equipment this year. Wilson Audio brought all their speakers but the WAMMs to the show. (Even though the Sasha 2s disappeared in shipping and a pair had to be fetched from local Wilson dealer Quintessence Audio.) There are five or six pairs of YG Acoustics speakers scattered around the show. Magico’s new under $10k A3s make their American debut at Axpona 2018. And many other equipment and accessory premieres. The basketball plus exhibit hall is filled to the brim with exhibitors plying their wares including equipment, cables, accessories and last but not least, software. (No Chad didn’t bring his series 2 tapes to Axpona 2018 but I understand Acoustic Sounds is selling around 300 tapes per month. Absolutely mind boggling!)
Onto some shots from the show!
