  • Day 2 Pics!

Pretty good sound in German Physiks and Merrill Audio room. Seems like a good match as the two have sounded good together in other shows. Plenty of power too.

First time have seen this KLaudio record clamp. Prototype of VPI Fatboy arm here too. Final version in VPI room. Also loved the small Merrill Audio amp. Picked it before it was ripe! 😆

MOFI room. TAD electronics and speakers with MOFIs modest turntable. Turntable sounded very good and belied its price.

Scott Walker room. Synergistic Research/Soulution and Magico. Yes can hear a difference but will the effect be the same in your system and how do you know where you are? Sounds good vs. sounds right school? Make it sound like you want?

Such a great combo of gear. It's kind of a shame that Synergistic's demo'ing all their tweaks muddies the water in these demo's, making it hard to gauge the essential sound of the equipment. To be honest, I'm a bit gun shy about buying any Synergistic gear as it's a slippery slope. Buy one piece, then another, and another...and down the rabbit hole you go. Or maybe i'm just old school? I do believe in the concept of active grounding though. That's pretty safe as it's harder to screw up!

Isn't going down the rabbit hole really saying the stuff helps to correct the negative influences of your room.

As Myles said, he could hear an improvement in sound. But by the same token, you could apply more traditional room treatment products and achieve the same results. Then again, I do have an Acoustic Revive RR-777 + KR Mk2 psu in my listening room .

Ermia room with stacked Quads and field coil cartridge. Much like last year with very good transparency in mid and upper bass. Just thought little more palpabilty and resolution last year.

That bespoke Garrard 301 style turntable with the plank style tonearms is an eye-catcher! Also the "field coil cartridge" needs further investigating - turns out its a Dave Slagle ne Kondo inspiration exercise ..

          VPI room.

Avenger with rose gold clamp and soon to be released Fat Boy arm with carbon fiber/fiberglass wrap.

New Cliffwood really out performed its $900 price point (with VPI Green cartridge but shown here with naked Ortofon Quintet. Great low end and linearity. Great starter table and upgradeable.

Also the new Mike Bettinger designed VPI Voyager phonstage. Two inputs and all controls on front.

Please note that the new VPI Fatboy tonearm does not have a carbon fibre, carbon fibre “look” nor a fibre glass wrap applied to the 3D printed components.

Hopefully we will get some comparisons to the older versions in the near future also. Is the additional pivot addressed differently?

The dual pivot / stabilizer used on the Fatboy is the same assembly used by all VPI tonearms.

Big GTA Audio magnetic planar speaker with open baffle subs. Bass is bipolar. Crosses over around 55 Hz with panels capable of around 40 Hz. Driven by PASS integrated electronics. Big, not exaggerated sound, very clean and fast. Like many rooms here, has low frequency issues.

Thanks for uploading this video Myles. Great choice of album. The sound, even through my crappy laptop speakers sounds articulate and musical. Was their a full house? There wasn't an R2R deck to be found at the Melbourne Audio Show .

Jeff Joseph told me the deck belongs to Nick Doshi. It's a fully restored Studer A 810, with the internal electronics bypassed - the low inductance PB head goes straight to the Doshi tape stage. They also used a Doshi Audio v 3.0 phono stage which is sitting on top of the doshi power supplies for the line stage and tape stage with no induced hum.
