Funny thing that most people in Southern California don't want to view LA and OC as the same market. It's hard to get people from either to go to the other very often.

my non scientific poll at the last Newport show suggests the majority of attendees were from LA anyways. If it weren't for my job and the public schools in OC id move back to LA.

      Color me totally confused.

It seems like some sort of split recently happened and the LAOC and others (?) started this new show. IIRC, LAOC originally put this audio show together? Hard to tell anything about the new LA Audio Show since their website is still under construction. Nor does their Facebook page offer any more information at this point.

If you go the www.theshownewport.com's facebook page (the old show), it shows the show as 6/3-5 (the date for the new LA Audio show). But it appears the Newport Show is now in Anaheim, instead of Newport.

I know there was talk earlier this year what with the death of Richard Beers that The Show Newport was up for sale. One reported suitor was Mark Freed and the group that runs Axpona.

Anyone have any information that might clear up the confusion?

THIS is MY personal feeling/opinion and it got nothing to do with our business. :-)

I'd heard rumors last May, after the passing of Richard Beers, that something like this was being cooked up between Jason Lord, an audio store owner, and Bob Levi.
At first, I thought...What? 2 shows in the same area?
Yes, I know some of us will say it's not the same since one is OC and the other is LA.
FWIW, I had several discussions with Richard while he's still around and I just happened to agree with him re THE Show location, ie OC versus LA.
Personally, I much prefer OC than LA.
On top of it, this new show is right next door to LAX which is a zoo all by itself so I am not really sure how things are going to be.
Wait until people start to sit in traffic trying to get in and out.

As much as I hate to say it, this kind of given a sour taste since Richard just passed away and now they're trying to bury his show along with him.

Not up to me but I agree about OC rather than LA. John Wayne Airport is literally across the street from the show (previous location) and traffic and airport are both incredibly easy.

Stereophile did shows off Olympic at LAX back in the late '80s onwards, I want to say it was the Sheraton. it was as good as any venue I'd been to and the weekend traffic on the west side is doable. I question the wisdom of attempting two high-level shows at locales separated by 30 miles and within four months of each other, it will dilute the number of exhibitors for sure not to mention attendees.

I went to a couple of the Stereophile LA Shows back in the day. Nice shows but much smaller than the NY Show. Ironical! Now we can't get a NY Audio going and LA is going to have two shows.

But the issue is the number of shows from July to December. Way, way too many in my estimation (limiting to US). LA (Sept), RMAF (October), NY and CAF (November) and then CES (January). There also used to be a California Audio Show in SF but can't seem to find anything past 2014? Is it gone? (BTW, I used to really enjoy the Stereophile SF show!)

          Then I think there's a Toronto show?

Simply there's just not enough money to go around and it seems to me either we'll end up with a few shows or a lot of small shows.

          Agreed with You Myles.

It seems everybody wanted to make money by having shows these days.
Regarding CAS (California Audio Show) in SFO, I am afraid last year is the last one.
There was talk of another group, BAAS (Bay Area Audio Society), wanted to buy it from Constantine Soo but that's about it.

Who knows what the future holds.

Exactly! It's the same gear that goes to each show. And hopefully arrived intact. Or even arrived. Even Axpona and Munich are close together and cause consternation among exhibitors going to both shows.

            Steve,
            Naturally, you are correct.
And this is the reason why we don't have a B&M store.
OTOH, as a manufacturer, one would need to pick and choose which show(s) to exhibit.
With the sheer number of current shows, I am afraid that, eventually, only the one(s) with big money will survive.

Totally off the cuff list of worldwides show. If I missed some, or they moved or no longer around add in comments and I will edit the post. I have heard that CES is not Hi_End friendly any more, if it ever was. Are they still too big a target to shoot at instead of cannibalizing smaller shows? Is there or should there be talk within the manufacturer/dealer community aobut replacing CES with a more Hi-End centric show in the US in January?

Thanks for that list and shows how global the industry is nowadays. I think there was a show in the UK last week? Also another small German show in the spring that Bandicat reported on. Then the Top Audio Show Milan (October) and Rome (December). And the list grows. X-FI Audioshow in Eindhoven, in The Netherlands in September. A Warsaw show in November.

Do you really think so? I hear so many exhibitors complain that they don't get any business from shows. Hence, their hesitation in doing future shows. Two things exhibitors want to see: traffic and business.

IMO, exhibiting at shows is to present your gears to potential customers and there is a guaranty that sale(s) would happen.
In our own experience of attending shows for the last several years, we only made 1 sale at RMAF of all of the shows we've been.
