Nyc headphones

Sonically it's complex for me as what I like may not be good audio in general
it's why I look forward the people like you Myles who are committed and honest and rare combo !
Those large white horns weren't bad.
I want to attend the new Tristate cam jam I read about not sure where it will be. But this is where I feel I can know what is good.
On that note I actually helped some venders better uderstand good sound in there shown products.
As for me in headphones there was no great sound to be heard.
The new lcd4 did sound very good and in a direct comparison of them and the he1000. I liked them better.
The he1000 while a great improvement in looks , feel and comfort and of course not needing a high power amp are all improvements. Where they lack a bit is the planer / speaker sound they owned with the he6. They also to my ears and I proved it to a vender is a Lack of mid transparency there is just parts of music you miss.
The lcd4 had a more flat freq response for me.

Which booth had the headphones? Did you get a chance to listen to the Mytek/MQA table?

Before I post my views I need to give a short basis and observation of the nyc show and headphones.
While I was at the show it's the first place I went to. While I love speakers headphones were my first musical experience that started way before I could drive.
As such I guess it happily brings me back to my child hood a time that needed me to be well away from
my own house hold.

As some sound better than others none of them really have there products shown well. The why is easy they don't really know how and the lack of show pesonell knowledge proves it lol.

Now for sounds.
Myek is one of the very first dacs I owned and also one I never liked kind of like you say needles in the head
it's dsd my first was nice but it's pcm drove me nuts.
It was nice to hear and vast improvement in sound quality
not saying a top shelf example either.
Mytek is agreed product with very good support and I think one that has been used commercially for years.
What always confused me with its playback sound.
It maybe I just don't like the sound of sabre chips in some setups
I heard at some length both the Brooklyn and the flagship
both seemed improved.
Now regarding formats. Headphones are a step below great speakers in some ways and do have some virtues speakers don't.
The both for Mytek was nice but did what most do and that is use a basic laptop or tablet this does lower expectations of quality and in doing so lessens the change between the formats. I did Brian s few ref tracks as well to help zero in on the sound scape for s ref.
The headphones they had are the he1000 ver 2 and a closed foster can.
Going from playing the same song in pcm and Mqa there was a change not much and both sounded very good
dsd was a bit less inviting not that is was bad but it lacked the virtues of dsd.
This was my firs time hearing this new format and at show with all new equipment it's very hard to complete a real stament.
While playing my ref tracks of both dsd and pcm it did sound good but not as good as it can be.
The closed fostex are a nice commuter headphone audiophile quality and noise canceling
i need some more time to conclude this and a general consensus of the headphones

Sorry for the delay in answering.
What I heard of Mqa was good but no better than the hirez files they had of the same tracks. Now I did feel my ref tracks sounded very good it overall was not good enough for me to say it was better then what I own . Keep in mind what we own almost always beats what we here at shows a real comparison comes from mini meets or cAm jam shows. Now would I based on what I heard go buy yet another format of my music the short answer is no , but both formats played very nice on the new mytek flagship DAC . Clean, clear and detailed sonically pleasing with all,the formats I played on it. The rep owned the he6 and like me felt they were better lol. I boroughed the lcd4 for a bit from the vender next to him. They too sounded very good and I felt more full then the he1000. I wish I could hear the format on my systems to give what I really here. What I did hear was proof the format is as good what we have. This leads me to if not better why buy in. I am planning on getting an update to my msb this will play Mqa as well as dsd 512 . Now if this format uses much less memory I think it has a chance .
One last thought in audio shows reg headphones.
Why they don't spend the time to put together a great showing I'll never understand. A simple example is showing off 15K of stuff from headphones to Amps to dacs. Tubes can make a big improvment do they use them no never lol. Another is
all of the above from an iPad or tablet or laptop. It makes me wonder how do they mAke great stuff with subpar devices in the chain. Do they ever hear how good there stuff is.

Now while some digital front ends do the same to speakers some don't. Dr audio a room I really liked did have all the bases covered. I met him in Brooklyn last year his room was nice then too. I hope what i posted helps people I do apologize ahead for my ramblings .

Al what songs did they use for the MQA/regulation digital comparisons? In my experience, MQA always seen to use less than stellar stuff. Stuff that if it sounded good--and we are talking in its original analog format--you'd have to wonder.

Funny you say that. For one thing. The tracks I brought were better by a margin. I did recal knowing them but they were clean songs not fuzzy or off in tone. The songs are as always simple music. The new Mytek did sound nice and marked inprovemt.
