My friend owns a Boulder 3060 and 2120 dac and absolute loves them. I owned a Boulder 1060/1010 and thought they were excellent amps, though they would not be ideally suited to my Magicos. My mind boggles to think how good the 3000 series is alongside the 2120 dac/streamer .

Nagra will introduce and reveal their new flagship HD Preamplifier at RMAF 2017...

"Almost 20 years after the release of the mythical preamplifier Nagra PL-P in 1998, Nagra will introduce at RMAF 2017 one of the most ambitious project of its history, the HD PREAMP.

For the past three years Nagra R&D Department, served by ten skilled and specialized audio engineers, worked on that project with the goal of creating the most revealing and engaging preamplifier in the world. This tube base dual-mono spared no expense or experimentation in the fields of electronics, mechanics, power supply, thermal issues and obviously extensive listening sessions. The result is a striking product in terms of specification and performance. It will just reshape the expectation you may have of a preamplifier or your whole set-up, sources and amplifiers…

MORE DETAILS TO COME AT THE RMAF !

US Retail price of the HDPreamp is $59500.

Astell&Kern announces three new products – the AK70 MK II, Michelle Limited IEM and AK CD-Ripper MK II. All three products will be available in October 2017 and make their official US debut at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest (RMAF) in Denver, CO, October 6 – 8, 2017.

            AK70 MK II

The AK70 MK II Is The First Dual DAC Astell&Kern Player Available for Under $1,000.

The Astell&Kern AK70 MK II will be available in October 2017 for $699.

The Astell&Kern AK70 MK II features two major upgrades from its sibling, the AK70. The new AK70 MK II is a dual DAC player, featuring two Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC chipset, one each for the left and right channels. The separate DAC for each independent left and right audio channel produces a wider soundstage and better stereo separation.

The new AK70 MK II features almost twice the power output from the 2.5mm, 4-pole unbalanced output than the AK70. With 4.0Vrms of balanced power output, the AK70 MK II can drive any headphone on the market today with ease, even the most inefficient headphones being used today.

In addition to 3.5mm unbalanced and 2.5mm, 4-pole balanced headphone outputs, the AK70 MK II also features digital out via USB. The AK70 MK II supports native DSD output via USB through DoP (DSD over PCM) and converts DSD to PCM for output to external USB Audio devices that do not support DoP. This allows users a range of options to connect their own favorite external DAC.

Other features of the Astell&Kern AK70 MK II include:
            • Dual Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC Chipsets (CS42398 x 2)
            • Supports high-resolution audio up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM (downconverted to 24bit/192kHz PCM) and up to double-rate, 5.6MHz DSD (converted to PCM)
            • 64GB internal flash storage with single microSD card slot for up to 256GB of additional storage memory
            • DLNA 1.0 Compatible
            • Wi-Fi enabled, supports OTA firmware updates and streaming music from other devices on the same network
            • Supports AK Connect app, available for iOS and Android devices
            • USB DAC function – can be connected to a Mac/PC to bypass internal sound card and output hi-res audio
            • CD-Ripper compatible, allowing the user to rip music directly to the player without the need for a computer.
            • TIDAL streaming music service

            Michelle Limited In-Ear Monitor

Astell&Kern, along with partner Jerry Harvey Audio, the premier manufacturer of professional, studio quality in-ear monitors, jointly announce a new second generation In Ear Monitor. Called the Michelle Limited, a special edition product produced in Korea and the latest entry-level model in the Jerry Harvey Audio Universal Fit Siren Series.

The Astell&Kern Michelle Limited Universal Fit In-Ear Monitor will be available in October 2017 for $399.

The Michelle Limited features three 3-way balanced armature drivers which boast a much smaller size and amazing efficiency compared to conventional dynamic drivers. The Michelle Limited also features Jerry Harvey Audio’s patented FreqPhase™ technology which adjusts the length and shape of the tube that is connected by a nozzle to each driver, to minimize the phase shift of each frequency and produce a more accurate sound.

Just like its siblings, the Michelle Limited is based on years of proven, patented, professional sound technology from Jerry Harvey Audio who has been making custom IEMs for years.

The Michelle Limited features a detachable, Silver Tinsel Cable with 2-pin connector. The cable is manufactured by first compressing the silver plated copper wire, which is then flattened and rolled into a steady interval that is then used to wrap around the Kevlar. Conventional straight cables do not handle the frequent bending of cables and often short out. The intertwined cable disperses the stress to the cable and offers better resilience.

This newly developed cable has astounding tensile strength and delivers the full dynamic range of music. Two types of cables are provided - a 3.5mm unbalanced and 2.5mm balanced cable.

Also included in the Michelle Limited package are 3 different sized silicon ear tips (S/M/ L) to provide the best in-ear fit, wax tool and a carrying case.

            AK CD-Ripper MK II

The AK CD-Ripper MK? will be available in October 2017 for $400.

Since most laptops and computers today do not contain an optical drive, the new AK CD-Ripper MK II is the perfect accessory to simply and easily digitize and add your entire CD collection to your Astell&Kern portable hi-res audio player.

Copying a CD to your Astell&Kern player could not be simpler. Connect the AK CD-Ripper MK II to your player and touch the CD ripping icon to begin. Musical tracks can be saved as FLAC or Wave formats and can be ripped at various speeds. The Wi-Fi connected Astell&Kern player will access Gracenote’s extensive music database and will automatically add all of the metadata such as album title, artist, genre and album art.

The unique design of the CD-Ripper MK II provides for the most accurate, error-free ripping experience. Constructed of machined aluminum, the body of the unit has increased weight to effectively limit vibrations caused by CD spinning. The triangular support damper under the body utilizes a string structure to further manage vibrations from CD rotation to prevent read errors and ensure the most accurate CD rips.

The CD-Ripper MK II is fully compatible with all Wi-Fi enabled Astell&Kern players including the new A&ultima SP1000 and KANN. Both micro-USB and USB-C cables are included.

Interesting. I wonder how the AK70 Mk2 rates up against the more expensive (now superceded) AK300?

            World Premiere of Zesto Audio's
            Andros Allasso Step Up Transformer
(Allasso in Greek means to change or transform one thing to another)
Thousand Oaks, CA, September 21, 2017 - Zesto Audio is pleased to announce their first audio accessory, the Andros Allasso Step Up Transformer. The international debut will take place at the X-FI Audio Show in Holland on September 30th and the US launch will be at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver, CO, October 6-8 in exhibit room #7009 at the Marriott Tech Center.
Easy to use 10 position loading, 4 ratio-gain settings and a Mono and Stereo switch.
The most flexible Step Up Transformer available on the market!
Unlike most step up transformers (SUT) which are customized to a specific phono cartridge with few adjustments, Zesto Audio's Allasso is the most versatile SUT on the market today with 40 adjustments in Mono and 40 adjustments for your stereo MC cartridge.
Zesto Audio is a company known for their award winning musical Phonostages. The Allasso is a product cloned from the same gene pool with all the very best characteristics, components and knowledge that went into those products. The biggest problem with phonostages is there are never enough inputs, so the Allasso was created.
George Counnas, President and Design Engineer for Zesto Audio exclaims, "You are now free to roam the cartridge planet!" He goes on to say, "I wanted to design a Step Up Transformer that is very flexible, easy to use and can work on any standard phono preamplifier with a 47K MM input. I designed the Allasso with enough adjustments to tailor it specifically to your cartridge or your next one, and the one after that."
Easy to Use - All the adjustments are easily accessible on the front and can be done "on the fly" without clicks or pops. Best of all there are no math skills required, it's just you and your ears as you freely adjust, listen and find the best match for your cartridge.
Unique features - The most prized Allasso features are the 4 gain settings of 17dB, 21dB, 23dB and 26dB and the step up ratios of 1:4, 1:6, 1:8 and 1:12 with 10 load positions for each setting allowing for 40 adjustments in Stereo and 40 in Mono. The Mono switch is a unique feature which takes one input and sends it to both outputs. Mono cartridge lovers have the added benefit of listening in either the Mono or Stereo.

            It's very quiet!
Transformer - The Allasso is designed with the highest quality multiple turn ratio MC transformers. This allows you to get the right gain and loading for your cartridge resulting in the most detail and great stereo imaging. They are quiet, with extra shielding and large enough with the multiple windings to handle even your high output cartridges.
Grounding -The extensive grounding scheme is designed into the circuitry, binding posts and enclosure. The input ground lift switches help eliminate those pesky ground loops, especially in your Mono cartridges. The RCA connectors are high quality, gold plated with an isolated ground.

George Counnas is the founder, president and design engineer for Zesto Audio. He has loved music all his life and went from a musician, to an electronics engineer, to an audio engineer. As a young man in England, in his first shop class project he built a tonearm. Later in college he designed vacuum tube circuits and his first amplifier. He worked for DECCA Navigator (now Raytheon), at the time Britain's largest electronics company, as part of the research and development team designing airborne navigational systems for the Royal Air Force. George brings to Zesto Audio the unique set of talents of not only designing, creating and manufacturing the highest build quality of high-end electronic equipment, but also as an audio engineer, he knows how great music should sound.
Zesto Audio was established in 2010 in Thousand Oaks, California. Zesto Audio is a manufacture of fine analog audio electronics specializing in vacuum tube technology. Their award winning products include the Andros 1.2 and Tessera Phonostage, the Leto Line amp and the Bia 120 Stereo power amp and Eros 300 Monoblocks
All Zesto Audio products are "Made in the USA"
The Andros Allasso retails for US $2,995 and sold through authorized dealers.

              MERGING TECHNOLOGIES AT RMAF 2017

Puidoux, September 2017: The MERGING+PLAYER, MERGING+NADAC and MERGING+POWER will be featured in a dedicated room at The Rocky Mountain Audio Festival in Denver. This late decision to take a room at the show was predicated by a change in US distribution and the desire to show the full range of products without conflict from other brands in the same room.

The MERGING+PLAYER offers a single box solution to playing files with Roon. It is offered in stereo or multichannel variants to cater for the former SACD enthusiasts, who can listen to the multichannel files as they should be heard. Since Roon 1.3, multichannel DSD playback has been implemented and this was a direct result of the Merging/Roon partnership which is ongoing with the intention to introduce other new features in the future.

The room will be staffed by Chris Hollebone, Sales and Marketing Manager of Merging, Fraser Jones, President of Independent Audio and Michael Broughton of The Audiophile Source who will be working his magic in setting up the room. Independent Audio is based in Portland, Maine and has been Merging’s professional distributor for many years. The company has an enviable track record of managing logistics and technical support throughout the USA and Merging is confident that the change will suit the dealer network.

RMAF will be the first North American demonstration of the MERGING+POWER.Reviewers have been unanimous in praising the excellent audio quality of the MERGING+PLAYER and MERGING+NADAC, so that would indicate that the designers did a fine job with the power supply. There is a body of opinion that maintains that removing all AC components from the chassis should improve the performance even more. MERGING+POWER is the answer. The unique hybrid design mixes switch mode and analog toroidal transformer technology to separate the different requirements of the key internal components. All major parts of the power plant meet aerospace or military specifications and have been selected to offer the ultimate in sonic integrity. MERGING+POWER is a product designed to add magic to excellence for the most discerning users.

The advantages of using Ethernet were plainly obvious to other DAC and server manufacturers and there has been much interest in how this could be incorporated into their products. The Aurender X100 Digital Music Player will be connected to the network to show the versatility that this can bring to the home. This product takes advantage of Merging’s LINUX Virtual Audio Device which can be adopted by other devices using the same operating system. Merging has also developed drivers for OSX and Windows to ensure that RAVENNA can be used with any computer platform. Merging will soon be introducing ZMan, a new compact and powerful RAVENNA circuit board which will be offered to OEM partners, bringing the advantages of a networked solution to audio components as diverse as loudspeakers, DACs and server/streamers. In addition to RAVENNA, this board will allow for a whole range of other capabilities like Roon Ready support, streaming services and DSP processing for advanced formats decoding or room correction.

              -ends-

Merging Technologies SA is a Swiss manufacturer with over 25 years of experience in developing groundbreaking, professional Audio and Video products for a wide range of entertainment and media industries. With a dedicated user base in the elite end of the music, film, television, mastering and performances industries, Merging is committed to developing product ranges with unrivalled quality and flexibility, no matter what the application. Merging builds tools for people who want more from their systems, have an inherent need to push boundaries, and believe that quality always comes first.

RAVENNA is a solution for real-time distribution of audio and other media content in IP-based network environments. Utilizing standardized network protocols and technologies, RAVENNA can operate on existing network infrastructures. RAVENNA is designed to meet the strict requirements of the pro audio market featuring low latency, full signal transparency and high reliability and is fully AES67 compatible. With a capacity of nearly 8 x MADI streams over a single Gigabit Ethernet link, it is also the first and only Layer-3 based IP audio protocol with full support for high-channel count DXD and DSD signals.

While primarily targeting the professional broadcast market, RAVENNA is also suitable for deployment in other pro audio market segments like live sound, install market and recording. Possible fields of application include (but are not limited to) in-house signal distribution in broadcasting houses, theatres, concert halls and other fixed installations, flexible setups at venues and live events, OB van support, inter-facility links across WAN connections and in production & recording applications. http://ravenna.alcnetworx.com

This room will also host the World Premiere of our SCAC Stravinsky - our new SOTA AC power cable:

                  - 3 x 6mm2 + 24 AWG OCC 7N copper wires spiraling throughout the cable length.
                  - 50% less polyolefin inner core heat shrink
                  - New inner core framework structure re-invented from the ground up to further improve ease of use, maximize durability and with even more effective energy transfer.
                  - 50% less inner framework material touching the OCC solid core wires
                  - Inner core structure further stabilized Ultra Low K hard density material.
                  - Each wire is shielded individually.
                  - The live and neutral wires are then shielded again from the ground wire.
                  - Both these shields are 100% foil shields.
                  - Covering these shields is a tinned copper braid shield.
                  - This shield is covered and tightened with a cross-linked polyethylene, or XLPE, heat shrink layer.
                  - This XLPE layer has a second tinned copper braid shield covering it.
                  - Our former reference power cable, the SCAC Beethoven, has its dielectric framework construct narrowing 10cm before the termination on both ends. On the SCAC Stravinsky we have been able to maintain the dielectric framework completely from end to end.

                  To sum this up:

The most important changes are the use of our new Ultra Low K dielectric material for the core framework and that it enables us to maintain the dielectric framework throughout the complete cable length. The new core framework has also allowed us to use 3 x 6mm OCC wires for the Stravinsky cables. The shielding is not only more but applied differently and 50% of it has a different shielding material than the SCAC Beethoven.
