Even though I am not a hockey fan, and know nothing of his accomplishments, I must say I know he was a very famous hockey player so he must have been pretty damn good. RIP.

Played pro hockey over five decades (six really but last one was only one shift, he was 69). Had the kind of game that he could still excel today. Grew up watching Redwing games when he played. My two sports related hero's gone in one week. RIP Mr. Hockey and G.O.A.T

He was one of the league's biggest stars back then (him and Bobby Hull were my heroes). IIRC both his sons also played professional hockey too!

His signing bonus for his first contract was a "team jacket". How things have changed!

One thing about Gordie different from most long time players in most sports, he stayed great up to the end of his career. His best season statistically was his 22 year in the NHL (only time he topped 100 points). When we started watching in the late 1960s, he was a powerhouse on the ice. Even his last year at 52 years old playing for Hartford Whalers, he was their fifth leading scorer.

However, relative to the the era they played in, and how they changed the game, Bobby Orr was still the best ever.
